The anticipated sequel to Thanksgiving has been confirmed for a 2025 release.

Starring Grey Anatomy's Patrick Dempsey, the horror flick saw a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer torment the town of Plymouth, Massachusetts — after a Black Friday riot ended in tragedy.

Following the release of the original movie on November 17, director Eli Roth confirmed that Thanksgiving 2 is in the works.

"BREAKING NEWS! John Carver will kill again!" he captioned a video on Instagram, in reference to the film's villain.

"Thank you to everyone who supported ORIGINAL HORROR in theaters!!! Go see it now on the big screen while it's in cinemas, sequel set for release in 2025! Taking a year to really get the script right, working on it starting today!"

Penned as an expansion of Roth's mock trailer for Grindhouse in 2007, Thanksgiving featured an ensemble cast that included TikTok star Addison Rae, Suits' Rick Hoffman, Zombies actor Milo Manheim, Nowhere's Nell Verlaque and Showgirls star Gina Gershon.

After its premiere, Thanksgiving earned a Fresh Rotten Tomatoes rating following critics' reviews. The film currently has an impressive critics' score of 83% from 126 reviews (as of December 1).

Speaking to MovieWeb, the Green Inferno director explained why the movie had been so long in the making.

"For years, I was just connecting the dots between the trailer, and then I was like: 'Am I just filming the scenes in between what I already did before it?' (Co-writer) Jeff Rendell and I just went through every iteration," he said.

"That freed me up creatively to go: 'I can use a couple of my favourite things in the trailer, but I don't have to worry about recreating the trailer.' That trailer was for a movie where every print was destroyed. Now, this is gonna be its own thing."

Thanksgiving is in cinemas now. Thanksgiving 2 doesn't have a release date yet.
