Barry Keoghan has addressed the possibility of returning as the Joker in The Batman - Part II, sharing that he is still none the wiser about whether he will be back.

The actor appeared in Matt Reeves' 2022 superhero film, with the Clown Prince of Crime appearing in a brief scene as he spoke with villain The Riddler, played by Paul Dano.

With production beginning on the follow-up, many fans have wondered if Keoghan will reprise his role as the villain, though the star shared that he was still unsure if he would be returning despite his enthusiasm.

"It's a big one, but I am going to say that, if the opportunity came about, yes, I'd love to explore, and given the opportunity, really dive into it," he told the Happy Sad Confused podcast. "But I have not been contacted, I've not heard anything."

Whilst Keoghan isn’t letting anything slip, Reeves - who also serves as a producer for The Penguin - spoke exclusively with Digital Spy about Keoghan's take on the iconic character, describing him as a "special" actor.

"Barry is a wonderful actor," said Reeves. "He's very, very special. One of the things that we talked a lot about was the idea, that his worldview is sort of formed by his being disfigured from birth. It was kind of like a cruel joke that life was playing on him, as well.

"His whole philosophy of life, and the laughing that he does in that kind of insidious, upsetting way, comes from the joke that has been played on him in his existence. This is who he is, so that's how he sees the world, so that's our point of entry into him.

"It's dealing with the themes that are Joker themes, but to try and find a different way in, a different point of entry. So that's something we talked a lot about when we're doing the scenes," he added.

The Batman is available to buy now on 4K Blu-ray, standard Blu-ray and DVD.
