Wednesday is the holiday equivalent of a super moon: Christmas and the first day of Hannukah all rolled into one. Have you bought all your presents yet?
Of course you haven’t. Even you, the overachiever who thinks everything is sewn up—au contraire, mon ami. Because you have not read this particular gift guide, in which I, this magazine’s resident sports degenerate, assemble five must-have items for the Dallas sports fan in your life*. That’s what we in the biz call “service journalism.”
*Provided you haven’t already blown your holiday spending budget, in which case there’s always said sports fan’s birthday.
Onto naked commercialism!
SMU Bobblehead Collection by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame
You’ll have to bide your time to get your hands on this very snazzy line of bobbleheads, which are currently estimated to ship in May. But the wait is worth it if you’re a Mustang fan, particularly for the Peruna model that features a top-25 tracker that you can update to reflect the Mustangs’ standing in the latest polls.
Incidentally, Tim Rogers interviewed Peruna earlier this year. Somehow the horse never let the news slip about the bobblehead line. Awfully modest of him. Available online
Dallas Cowboys 5 Time Super Bowl Champions Deluxe Gold Coin & Ticket Collection by The Highland Mint
To know happiness as a Cowboy fan in the Year of Our Lord 2024 is to live in the past, back when America’s Team stood for excellence instead of the ruin one man’s hubris can inflict on a proud institution he’s so woefully ill-equipped to command.
With that in mind, how about some coins? Not just any coins, mind you; commemorative Super Bowl coins! And tickets, which are matted with the coins in a 27’’ x 20’’ wood frame guaranteed to make you think wistful thoughts about Roger the Dodger and the Triplets instead of whatever the hell Mike McCarthy boiled up on offense this week.
In all seriousness, this is a pretty great piece. Unlike this year’s team, it is guaranteed not to embarrass you in front of your friends and family when displayed in your home. Available online
DTFC Collection Bomber Jacket
True story: when Dallas Trinity FC revealed its logo and color scheme back in the spring, I had friends from California asking what the deal was with this new women’s soccer team and their absurdly stylish branding. If you’ve wondered the same thing, know that Jon Arnold can answer that for you. But even if you haven’t, this snazzy-as-hell jacket. It’s the rare piece of sports clothing that can stand on its own as a fashion piece. Available online
Corey Seager pencil sketch print by Ellen Adair
Adair is one of my favorite mutuals on Twitter, an accomplished actor and baseball fanatic who, I learned recently, is also a damn good artist. While they are available for commissions, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better print for the Ranger fan in your life than the moment Corey Seager ripped his epic home run in Game 1 of the 2023 World Series. Celtics @ Mavericks at COSM
If you haven’t heard of Cosm, I’d recommend getting up to speed, because the immersive experience theater is changing how sports are watched. Popping into the Grandscape location (one of only two nationwide) feels tantamount to sitting in the endzone of a football game or courtside in hoops. And when the Celtics come to town next month for an NBA Finals rematch against the Mavs, Cosm will be the next-best thing to being in the American Airlines Center—and with tickets starting at $55, considerably lighter on the wallet. 5776 Grandscape Blvd, The Colony, TX 75056
