When it comes to campsites, and even just RV life in general, one thing becomes evident pretty quickly: space is at a premium.
Whether you ask an RVing veteran or a first timer, one of the most common annoyances youโll hear is that people need more space to function, or need items to take up less space in storage. Thereโs simply not a lot of room on the road.
Thatโs why itโs important to make sure a good outdoor table is one of the first things you add to your camping or RV essentials. For cooking, dining, playing board games, or relaxing by the fire, a camping table helps keep you from living in the dirt!
The tables listed here need to fit a few criteria:
- They need to be durable (both to withstand being left out in the elements, and to hold up to plenty of use).
- They need to be easily portable (so you wonโt have trouble constantly taking them in and out).
- And they have to easily fold up to a small size, making sure they take up as little space as possible inside your camper.
Hereโs a look at four of the best options for portable outdoor camping tables.
1. Original Low Wood from โTable In A Bagโ
The Table In A Bag assembles to sit 16 inches high and 27 inches square, weighs about 8 pounds, and stores neatly in the included carrying bag.
The solid hardwood top is water resistant, so you donโt have to worry about leaving it outside all the time. It sits about a foot and a half off the ground, so itโs the perfect height for using with camping chairs, or for sitting directly on the ground picnic style.
Many online reviewers found this to be the perfect option for taking to the beach or for outdoor concerts. The Table In A Bag brand does offer several other tables that stand a little higher.
Best feature: The fact that this table sits less than two feet off the ground makes it perfect for a picnic or concert situation, and great for sitting drinks on by the fire. Itโs not a table youโd use for a full-size dinner, but youโll find plenty of uses for it around the campsite.
2. ALPS Mountaineering Dining Table
ALPS Mountaineering tables are available in three main sizes: a small square dining table for 2, a regular dining table that seats 4, or the XL Dining Table that seats 6.
Thanks to the X-Frame design and fold-up top, this table can be taken down or put back up in seconds (and thatย also means thereโs nothing under the table to bang your knees on and chairs can slide up close).
These tables stand about 43 inches high and are constructed from heavy-duty aluminum. They also come with a canvas carrying bag to make transport a snap.
Best feature: A lot of portable and outdoor tables have framework that runs from the side to the middle underneath, meaning thereโs often metal in the way when youโre sitting under it. But this tableโs โX-frameโ design on the side provides nothing but clear space underneath. If youโre looking for a table for meals, this may beย your best bet.
3. Roll-A-Table from Camp Time
With a top made from wooden slats encased in waterproof vinyl fabric, this table opens to 32 inches square and stands 28 inches high. When stored, itโs only 6 inches high and 32 inches long.
The Roll-A-Table (like its name implies) rolls up for easy storage and has a carrying strap to make moving it around convenient and hassle-free. Online reviews say that cleaning this table is incredibly easy and that it holds up well to years of use.
Best feature: The vinyl surface of this table is super easy to keep clean. Thereโs also a small mesh bag attached to the table, meaning you can roll up your utensils and keep them right on the table, instead of watching them blow away in the wind.
4. Compact Outdoor Table from Coleman
This table from Coleman fits all the requirements for a camping table:
- Durable
- Easy to put up
- Easy to take down
This isnโt really a table youโll slide a chair under for a big meal thanks to the framing underneath, but itโs perfect for all-around use atย the campsite, and it makes a great side table.
It weighs a little under 9 pounds and comes with a convenient storage bag. With a steel frame and aluminum top, itโs okay to leave this table out in the elements or to set hot pots and pans on without worry.
Best feature: This table is the best traveler on this list, with legs that fold up easily and make for a very compact profile once itโs folded. It can be set up in less than a minute and broken down in the same time frame.
I have the Coleman table and am real happy with it. I like the fact the slats for the top are Aluminium so it stays nice looking easy to clean no wood to warp in moisture. travels compact easy set up take down. good value. even better on winter sale price online
I’ve had #3 for 20 years. A little wobbly, but light, inexpensive, convenient, and does the job. You can’t use a stove on it and you have to be careful of hot pots due to the vinyl, which does seem to be fairly thick and sturdy.
