2022 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport GLS: owner review

Why did I choose the Pajero? After selling my Toyota Prado (after 15 years of ownership), I looked for a replacement that would be fit for purpose at my stage of life now 70 years old. I wanted a vehicle that could take me in and out of a national park in dry and wet weather without hassle. I wanted an AWD or, at best, a proper 4WD that could allow me to take my four grandchildren on a day out.
First, I looked at the Prado (found it had grown in size – so too big and exceeded my price point). Second, the Subaru Outback. Third, the Mitsubishi Outlander, and fourth, the Toyota RAV4.
In all cases, the salesman said that if I was going to do the national parks and dirt roads west of the New England Highway, it would be best to change the tyres from the original suburban treads. The Subaru was a great car but it was too tech-heavy, while the Outlander and RAV4 were too small for the camping sites and transporting the kids.
Pros:
I liked the 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport GLS because it was a nice middle between the smaller and larger vehicles that I tested. I opted for the Deluxe Pack (front electric seats and faux leather trim) plus the light bar for better orientation on country roads at night.
The price of $57,790 to me represented good value. In addition to the capability of the vehicle in standard form, I was pleasantly surprised to receive an invitation from Mitsubishi Australia to attend an owner open day at HART driving school, St Ives NSW.
This day was an unexpected bonus, with Mitsubishi staff answering any questions about the vehicle and providing hands-on experience for the safety features and the function/purpose of the 4WD system, which gave me great confidence in my choice. Good move Mitsubishi Australia.
Cons:
What do I dislike? Really not much. If anything, the instruction manuals (one for the sound system etc and the vehicle are an overwhelming read; one paragraph on the 'how to' and two pages of 'don'ts').
