Star Wars actor Daisy Ridley is going sky-scraping again, Deadline reports, as she is set to star in vertiginous action-thriller Cleaner from Casino Royale and GoldenEye filmmaker Martin Campbell.

The timely action-thriller, set in present-day London, will see radical activists take over an energy company’s annual gala at the Shard – the tallest skyscraper in Western Europe – seizing 300 hostages in order to expose the corruption of the hosts. Their just cause is hijacked by a zealous extremist within their ranks, who is ready to murder everyone in the building to send his anarchic message to the world. It falls to an ex-soldier turned window cleaner, Joey Locke (Daisy Ridley) – suspended 90 stories up on the outside of the building – to save those trapped inside and take down the killers, while also finding a way to bring the corrupt energy moguls to justice.

The film is being financed and produced by Greenland outfit Anton with Sebastien Raybaud and Callum Grant as producers. The shoot is due to commence late summer 2023 with talks underway about filming locations (no word yet whether the project will actually film at the Shard).

Anton is launching the hot Cannes package for buyers who are becoming spoiled for choice in this market.

Sony will release Columbia Pictures’ “Resident Evil” domestically on September 18, 2026.

Based on Capcom’s hugely popular horror video games, Zach Cregger has written the script and will direct. Shay Hatten is co-writing.

Constantin Film is producing and co-financing the film. Constantin’s Robert Kulzer, Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon and PlayStation Productions are also producing.

Cregger’s credits as a director include “Miss March,” “The Civil War on Drugs” (both alongside Trevor Moore) and, most recently, “Barbarian.” He also produced the 2025 film “Companion,” and is next writing, directing and producing the Josh Brolin and Julia Garner-led horror film “Weapons” for Warner Bros., out January 2026. HBO is closing in on two more main cast members for its high-profile series adaptation of the hugely popular Harry Potter fantasy books. Oscar and Emmy-nominated actress Janet McTeer is in negotiations to play Professor Minerva McGonagall, reports Deadline. Additionally, Emmy nominee Paapa Essiedu, one of the first actors identified for the series, is reportedly closing his deal to portray Professor Severus Snape. They are poised to join John Lithgow, who will be playing Professor Albus Dumbledore.

HBO declined to comment. “We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation,” the network said in a statement. “As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals.”

The Harry Potter TV series, which will be filmed at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden where the movies were shot, is slated to debut on HBO in late 2026 or early 2027. Some 32,000 kids sent audition tapes for the lead roles of Harry, Hermione and Ron, with the final casting choices yet to be revealed.

Clémence Poésy is the latest addition to the “Neuromancer” series adaptation currently in the works at Apple TV+, Variety is reporting.

Poésy will star in the 10-episode drama alongside fellow cast members Callum Turner, Brianna Middleton, Joseph Lee, and Mark Strong.

Based on the book of the same name by William Gibson, the official logline for “Neuromancer” states that it “follows a damaged, top-rung super-hacker named Case (Turner) who is thrust into a web of digital espionage and high stakes crime with his partner Molly (Middleton), a razor-girl assassin with mirrored eyes, aiming to pull a heist on a corporate dynasty with untold secrets.”

Poésy will play Marie-France Tessier.

Following an extensive auditioning process, rising star Austin Abrams has landed the lead role in 20th Century’s adaptation of the Daniel Kraus novel Whalefall with Brian Duffield directing. Duffield will co-write the script with Kraus.

The film is is described as The Martian meets 127 Hours, about a scuba diver in search of his deceased father’s remains who gets swallowed by an eighty-foot, sixty-ton sperm whale and has only one hour to escape before his oxygen runs out. After giving up on life, the young man is surprised to find a reason to live in the most dangerous and unlikely of places.

The project has been a major priority for the studio ever since it landed the distribution rights in a competitive bid last year. Casting had heated up in recent weeks with several young actors testing for the role. Duffield and execs tested the final group last week and ultimately it was Abrams who won the role. To celebrate Marvel Television’s Daredevil: Born Again, which premiered on Disney+ earlier this week, Marvel Comics will spotlight artwork from the highly-anticipated show in a new line of variant covers. Deadline first reported about the project back in Cannes and the cast to have joined since then includes O’Shea Jackson, Jr. (Den Of Thieves 2), Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty), Chet Hanks (Dead Wrong) and Spencer Garrett (Yes Man).

Tom Chilcoat’s original screenplay is about a troubled marine vet (Gladstone) who is pulled into a dark conspiracy by a cunning mercenary (Cranston) to commit a political assassination.
