With the issue of religious conversion becoming a politically divisive issue in recent years, the Tamil Nadu government recently took a stand in the Supreme Court regarding Christian missionaries. The DMK-led state government told the top court that there is nothing illegal about missionaries spreading Christianity unless they use unlawful means, as per a report in the Hindustan Times. Countering a petition by Ashwini Upadhyay for a CBI probe into alleged cases of forced conversions, the Tamil Nadu administration said that no such cases have been reported in the state in many years.
