Join the Master of Emmanuel, Doug Chalmers, his wife, Helen, and Development Director, Dr Sarah Bendall, for lunch and a catch up on all things Emmanuel while they visit Mumbai on Monday 7 April. Join them at Sea Lounge, The Taj Mahal Palace, at 1.00pm. This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with members from across the city and further afield. Members are warmly invited to attend with guests.

Hannah is the founder and director of Delta H, a London-based consultancy specialising in hydrogen, energy storage, and green chemicals. Since 2020, she has worked as the secretariat and spokesperson to the H2Accelerate collaboration on hydrogen trucking in Europe, supporting members bp, Daimler Truck, Iveco Group, Linde, Shell, TEAL Mobility, TotalEnergies, and Volvo Group to acquire over €70m of funding for the deployment of hydrogen trucks and refuelling stations.

Her work on hydrogen mobility has led her to serve as an expert on DG Move’s Sustainable Transport Forum Sub-Group on hydrogen refuelling infrastructure, leading the development of recommendations on the financing of hydrogen refuelling stations for Member States.

She previously worked as a Principal Consultant on the hydrogen team at Element Energy, where she led in the development of large-scale European hydrogen deployment projects. Hannah holds a master’s in Chemical Engineering from Emmanuel College.

Emma Connects: Monthly Puzzle

Get your thinking hats on with Bobby Seagull's mind-bending monthly puzzle (No. 97), which will feature in our next full edition of Emma Connects on 1st May.

Bobby's latest challenge (No. 96) coincides with the Easter holiday period, and there's still time to have a go! Can you solve his seasonal clues in order to reveal the correct mathematical word? The answer will be revealed on 1st May.

If you like Maths and want more puzzles, you can visit Bobby's YouTube channel, where he and Susan Okereke post every Tuesday and Thursday. More challenges can also be found at the end of each chapter of Bobby's book, The Life-Changing Magic of Numbers.

Burnaby Recital: Anna Wolstenholme (1999), with Michael McHale (2001)

Anna Wolstenholme (1999) and Michael McHale (2001) return to Emma to give our Easter Term Burnaby Recital. In addition to her role as first amanuensis Professor of Flute at the University of Bergen, Anna has a busy freelance career with many of the UK’s major orchestras. Her accompanist, Michael, has established himself as one of Ireland’s leading pianists, having developed a busy international career as a solo recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician.

Booking for this event is not required. Entry is free on the door and members are also encouraged to make use of their dining privileges by booking to dine at High Table afterwards.

Dinner booking closes on Friday 25 April.

Stories from Emma Entrepreneurs: David Ruiz-Alonso (2001), Co-founder, Owlstone Medical

David is co-founder of Owlstone Medical, which is at the forefront of breath biomarker research and development, leading to non-invasive diagnostic tests that can improve early disease detection and precision medicine across different fields including cancer, respiratory, gastrointestinal, the microbiome and liver disease. He also offers Breath Biopsy Research Products and Services to academic, clinical and pharma research partners who want to develop breath based diagnostics for their own applications. He works with leading academic institutions and industry leaders such as Cleveland Clinic, Astra Zeneca, J&J and GSK with over 100 published papers and posters using Owlstone’s technology. The company has secured over $150M of investment to date.

David grew up in Murcia, Spain, and earned his Bachelors and Masters degree in engineering at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, where he took a double major in electronics and communications. He then spent a year as a graduate student at University of California, Berkeley, where he completed his Msc thesis before starting a PhD in Cambridge University. He ultimately put his PhD in superconductor modelling on hold to co-found Owlstone. David was a winner of the 2018 MacRobert Award, the premier award for UK engineering innovation.
