Founded in 1974 by Daniel Chanzy, Maison Chanzy is a prestigious wine estate located in Bouzeron, in the northern part of the Côte Chalonnaise. Chanzy’s original vision was to produce wines that could rival the greatness of Burgundy’s famed Côte d'Or, leading to significant investments in vineyards throughout the region. In 2013, a group of passionate Burgundy wine lovers acquired the estate, expanding its holdings to include 163 acres of vineyards across both Côte Chalonnaise and Côte d'Or. With a range of 40 appellations spanning eight villages, Maison Chanzy has become a leader in Burgundy winemaking, recognized for its meticulous control over every step of production, from vineyard to bottling.
The estate’s vineyards are primarily located in the Côte Chalonnaise, with notable holdings in Bouzeron, Rully, Givry, and Mercurey. Chanzy’s flagship wine comes from its monopole Clos de la Fortune, located in Bouzeron. The estate also owns impressive vineyard parcels in the Côte d'Or, including prestigious appellations such as Puligny-Montrachet and Vosne-Romanée. Committed to sustainable farming practices, Chanzy avoids herbicides and pesticides, utilizing organic fertilizers and occasional plowing to promote soil health. The estate is currently in the process of achieving Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) certification, further cementing its dedication to environmentally conscious viticulture.
At Maison Chanzy, winemaking is carried out with precision and care in Bouzeron. White wines are pressed immediately, while red grapes undergo a cold maceration to extract flavors gently before fermentation. Depending on the vintage and style, fermentation may occur with selected yeasts or spontaneously through pied-de-cuve. Élevage is tailored to each wine, with basic appellations fermented in tank and more prestigious crus aged in a variety of barrel sizes, from traditional 228-liter pièces to large 2,500-liter foudres. With minimal use of new oak and low sulfur levels, Chanzy’s wines are lightly fined and filtered, showcasing the purity and elegance of Burgundy’s diverse terroirs.
