Heir to the Cluniac monks who cleared and planted vines on the land they owned around Mâcon, our House has its origins in southern Burgundy. It was in Grange-Saint-Pierre, a former outbuilding of the Abbey of Cluny, whose key would become the emblem of the House, that Jean-Marie Mommessin settled in 1865.
The purchase of the famous Clos de Tart in 1932 sealed the establishment of the House in the very heart of Burgundy, before its headquarters were transferred to Quincié-en-Beaujolais, after more than a century of presence in Mâconnais.
This double lineage makes the exception of Mommessin wines resulting from an encounter between the quest for excellence which characterizes Burgundy and the explosion of taste which makes Beaujolais great.
From now on, it is in the middle of the green hills of Beaujolais that the history of Maison Mommessin is written, between vines and the know-how of a merchant-breeder, imbued with Burgundian traditions.
