Land-Air Industrial Park's latest building is a 105,000-square-foot facility to be completed in December 2020. The building is near Toledo Express Airport in a Joint Economic Development District with the City of Toledo and Monclova and Swanton townships. JobsOhio and the Regional Growth Partnership worked on the project, which will receive assistance through JobsOhio’s Ohio Site Inventory Program. Poggemeyer Design Group and Rudolph Libbe Group are leading the construction team.

The Village of Arlington Heights’ police station has earned a 2020 Project of the Year Award from the American Public Works Association.
The award acknowledges projects that “promote excellence in the management and implementation of public works projects by recognizing the alliance between the managing agency, the consultant/architect/engineer, and the contractor who worked together.” Key recipients are the Village of Arlington Heights, Legat Architects, and Riley Construction.

Tasked to build a bridge over a heavily traveled rail line, the team from Peterson Contractors, Inc. partnered with TrueTech Bridge to provide the ClearCast SIP Form System. This project required coordination with the railroad to raise the road nearly 50 ft and set the girders and deck while keeping the tracks in service. With the use of SIP forms, the railroad impact was minimized by reducing the time and expense for a flagger and removing the need to strip traditional wood forms.

Providing daylight and views to the interior work areas was a challenge as the building has a narrow floor plate. It is 204’ x 58’ with a 15’ setback as small as 12’ between adjacent buildings. The design showed creativity introducing a 2nd floor interior light well to harvest daylight.The space also provides an outdoor conference room to the office. Each private office utilizes Solatubes to provide daylight to in rooms in the central core.

A key project goal was to reduce the overall energy use of the building. This is significantly improved with the inclusion of renewable energy through photovoltaic panels. Our photovoltaic system includes 92 panels that provides 32 kW of power. This provides 40% of the buildings projected energy use.

Burns & McDonnell was awarded an unrestricted Indefinite Delivery Contract (IDC) with the Omaha District for preparation of studies, analysis and architectural and engineering design services throughout the Northwestern Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), including projects in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, South Dakota and North Dakota. The IDC positions Burns & McDonnell as a resource when funding becomes available for future projects with various branches of the military.

Welty Building Company's reenactment of “Lunch atop a Skyscraper” at Akron Children’s Hospital in 2017. All required safety measures were adhered to during the making of the reenactment. Tom Conti, a senior superintendent at Welty Building Company, teamed up with the public relations staff at Akron Children's Hospital to recreate the classic photo "Lunch atop a Skyscraper" taken in 1932 on the 69th floor of the RCA building in New York City. Welty built the 230,000 sq ft hospital expansion.

Crews from McHugh Construction recently completed the pro-bono installation and construction of the Special Olympics Eternal Flame of Hope monument at Soldier Field in Chicago. The monument pays homage to the 50th anniversary of the Special Olympics, which held its first games in Chicago in 1968. McHugh Construction was among the first supporters of Special Olympics. Fifty years later, the company is proud to continue its support for the organization and its tremendous athletes worldwide.

Wiegmann Associates has begun HVAC work on the new 16-story, 675-bed RISE on Chauncey student housing property near Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. Wiegmann Associates,the Engineer of Record and design/build HVAC mechanical contractor, designed HVAC systems to serve 300, one to four-bedroom units and 11,000 square feet of retail and community spaces. The general contractor is Brinkmann Constructors and property developer is CA Student Living. Completion is scheduled for Summer 2019.

Knoebel Construction has completed construction of the $54M The Shoppes at Mid Rivers in St. Peters, MO. The project is the largest mall to be built in St. Charles County since 2008. Knoebel divided the work into seven subprojects with separate management teams to meet an expedited schedule. The developer was GBT Realty Corporation. Tenants of the 270,000sf shopping center include Academy Sports + Outdoor, Burlington, Marshalls, Home Goods, Ulta Beauty, Ross Dress for Less and more.

Highway 371 is a highly-traveled Trunk Highway leading to some of Minnesota’s most pristine lakes and tourist attractions. As tourism and travel continued to grow in the area, capacity, safety, social, economic and environmental impacts and concerns began to arise.
Sustainability, safety, efficiency and creative engineering solutions were imperative to WSB throughout the entirety of the project. The $50 million design-build project opened less than two years after initial design began.

McHugh Construction led the 19-month reconstruction and historic restoration of the structure, originally built in the early 1900s. The Lofts on Arthington will now provide safe and affordable housing to more than 300 children and their families and will once again become an important anchor in the community.

Workers construct the caissons, spread footings and foundation walls for the new multi-story residence hall at 560 Lincoln on the Northwestern University campus in Evanston, IL. The project is scheduled to be complete by Fall 2017.

Since Wight & Company was awarded its first project at Lewis University, the firm has become a trusted advisor to the small but growing, Catholic university sponsored by the De LaSalle Christian Brothers. Wight has been involved in all nine of the new construction, building addition and renovation projects on campus, with more slated for the future. One of those projects involves an addition to the University Science Building.
Intended to accommodate the school's growing enrollment, the project will allow the science departments to expand their instructional potential while enriching the student educational experience. The Science Building addition will include sustainable features is LEED registered.
The project is utilizing the cutting edge technology of Revit to develop the construction documents. Revit incorporates Building Integrated Modeling, or BIM, to provide 4D digital modeling of the Science Building.

When installation of the first two boilers is complete later this year, the plant will be able to permanently retire the existing coal fired boilers. After demolition of the existing coal facilities, the final two boilers, water treatment and cooling towers will be installed. The upgrades in systems will provide back-up and growth capacity needed to heat and cool campus buildings for the next decade and beyond. Work on the power plant is scheduled for completion in early 2013.

Massive power plant boilers slowly snake their way through the pre-dawn streets of Madison on their way to installation at the University of Wisconsin's power plant. After being trucked through four states, the custom built boilers are loaded on a 215-foot semi-trailer and each is 17-feet tall lying on their sides. The shipment arrived in the early morning of July 14.

Construction crews delivered the massive boilers designed to convert the coal-fired power plant on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus from coal-burning to natural gas. Each of the two boilers weighs 120-tons and was be delivered via semi-truck in the early morning hours of July 14. The custom built boilers are loaded on a 215-foot semi-trailer and each is 17-feet tall lying on their sides. "The size is significant," said Boldt project manager Gus Schultz. "It's a little like moving a small house."

Gilbane Building Company has mobilized on site to begin construction on the new Transportation, Distribution and Logistics Center for Olive-Harvey Community College. Demolition of the temporary buildings was completed earlier this year making way for the new construction. This new 105,000 square foot facility includes classrooms with curriculum-driven technology and space for automotive technology and training, electric and A/C technology, diesel engine technology, and supply chain management. The facility will also feature a high-tech central store warehouse environment providing a supply chain hub to City Colleges’ seven campuses, six satellites and District Office.
Gilbane has teamed with DSR Group, Inc. and Jones-Moore to supplement community outreach and project controls support on this important project. The project is targeting LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The project will be completed in the fall of 2015.
