So now it's late summer, and we're all a little tired and bored, and anyone with but a single farmer's-tanned-toe dipped into the political cesspool wants (needs?) to out-Trump the Trump. There's Ted Cruz, who plans to muscle his way past the Butter Cow at the Iowa State Fair this Friday to host his Rally for Religious Liberty. It will feature, among other things, "SPECIAL GUESTS VICTIMIZED BY GOVERNMENT PERSECUTION." Cruz's fellow Texan, Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller (or a member of his staff), shared a lo-fi, high-racist meme to his personal Facebook page Sunday evening.
"JAPAN HAS BEEN AT PEACE WITH THE US SINCE AUGUST 9, 1945," the meme earnestly begins, "IT'S TIME WE MADE PEACE WITH THE MUSLIM WORLD." A mushroom cloud separates (unites?) the two all-white, caps-lock statements. Miller (or a member of his staff) had deleted the post by late Monday morning, but, this being the Internet, screenshots remained. As The Houston Chronicle notes, the photo appears to show the explosion of a 1957 nuclear test in Nevada, not Hiroshima.
Miller's shared meme does not explicitly endorse taking out ISIS or Al Qaeda but rather, "THE MUSLIM WORLD," which, in broad strokes, could very well include the 140,000 Muslims currently living in Texas and paying Miller's salary. As Texas Monthly points out, this is the same guy who tapped Ted Nugent to be his campaign chair and co-chairman.
So what's the end game here? Trump already skated swiftly past his Megyn Kelly blood comments, nabbing his second Maureen Dowd Sunday column in as many weeks—with Dowd even going on record saying
