Olympics news - British bobsledder quits sport to pursue Olympic cycling dream

Bobsleigh ace Greg Cackett is swapping snow shoes for a cycling helmet after announcing his decision to change sports in an attempt to reach Tokyo 2020.

The 28-year-old finished 17th at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in the four-man bobsleigh alongside Brad Hall, Bruce Tasker and Joel Fearon, but his focus for the next two years will be on sprint cycling.
The Redhill-born athlete started out his career on the athletics track, finishing fourth in the UK U23 60m Championships in 2011, before making his bobsleigh debut in Konigssee five years later.
Now Cackett wants to become the first British Olympian since Allyn Condon to compete at both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games.
"I've decided to set myself another monster challenge by trying to make it in a third sport track sprint cycling,” he revealed.
"We found during my time at bobsleigh that I had a high power to weight ratio on the bike and this piqued a curiosity for me about giving this sport a go.
"A few of the bobsleigh boys had talked about trying it previously and I'm now the one who's going for it.
"I've never shied from a challenge and whether this fails miserably or succeeds brilliantly, I'll know at least I tried. And bobsleigh, I'll see you in 2020.”
