Natural progression
The idea of working in harmony with nature may appeal to many gardeners but that isn’t necessarily how it plays out in in practice.
Generally, horticulture and agriculture are taught from the perspective that we are in a perpetual battle against nature — and mainstream gardening is often practised that way.
It’s not hard to understand such a view. Humans design gardens and farms to look the way they imagine they should look and they make tremendous efforts to maintain them that way. But nature seems hell bent on defying human intentions, working incessantly to fill our beloved creations with weeds.
The question that begs to be answered is why the goals of humanity and those of nature appear to be in opposition.
