Astrology for The New Age
If you gaze fondly into your ephemeris for September 2019, you might notice the following pattern: The Sun moves from Virgo into Libra on the 23rd, Mercury and Venus move from Virgo into Libra on the 14th, and Mars moves from Virgo into Libra on October 3rd. I will take this pattern as a message that we should discuss Virgo and Libra, and the Mutable-Cardinal connection generally, starting with more general questions about mutability and cardinality before moving on to these two signs. Then we will move to inner and outer planets.
Mutable vs. Cardinal
As you probably know, the astrological signs appear in four groups of three, with each group consisting of a Cardinal, a Fixed, and a Mutable sign. We tend to think of the Cardinal sign as the initiating symbol of each group and the Mutable sign as the concluding symbol, even though it is simply followed by a repetition of the same pattern. Of course, each group reminds us of a pattern in our lives: we pioneer into new territory, we then consolidate, and at some point the situation begins to shift toward the next development.
