We perhaps don’t usually think of Venus and Saturn as having all that much in common, as Venus seems connected with the warmth of love and the heat of passion, and Saturn seems connected with coldness and restriction. Further, Venus has to do with relationship, where Saturn has to do with boundaries, not only literal ones like walls and borders, but metaphorical ones like fear and an inner sense of limitation. But, of course, Venus rules Libra, the sign of Saturn’s exaltation. So what gives?
Venus, Saturn, Standards
Both planets are concerned with standards: The Venus-Saturn connection, through Libra – called “La Balance” in French, “the scales” – reminds us not only to remember that Venus relates not just to love, but with other matters as well, and that Saturn is concerned not just with limits and restriction, but with, let us say, matters not unconnected with love.
Scales have to do, clearly enough, with standards; we use them to make measurements or evaluations. As Dane Rudhyar said a long time ago, Libra has a close connection to a socially accepted standard weight. Scales depend on that
