The Mystical Magician
Neptune is the most magical planet in the solar system, whether when looked at through a telescope or traced through the story it tells in each person’s birth chart. Visually it is most impressive with its deep cool colors and mysterious markings, and astrologically it is equally mysterious, offering us spiritual and artistic inspiration at times, and regrettable behavior at others. As an outer planet, Neptune spends approximately 13 to 14 years transiting each of the signs of the zodiac. As of this month, Neptune has been in Pisces, the sign she rules, since April 4, 2011, and will begin the slow back-and-forth process of leaving this sign on March 30, 2025, leaving Pisces for good this time around, on January 26, 2026. Neptune in Pisces will have an astrological influence on many of the issues that we currently face.
This planet governs anesthetizing substances such as ether and chloroform, and addictive ones such as opiates and alcohol, so we might say that Neptune is about sparing us from pain in all forms, whether physical, mental, or emotional. At its worst it can lead us to a happy but unwise oblivion, while at its best it can encourage us to explore our inner selves through disciplines such as meditation or fasting, or through a retreat into religion.
