“This quilt features Half Log Cabin blocks set on point into a Barn Raising layout, their colour value placement gives the quilt a sense of movement and the effect of a ‘chasing’ Friendship Braid. It’s very quick and easy to piece, in fact, the trickiest part of making this quilt is keeping track of the different colours as you make the blocks. I chose to structure the background fabric placement to create a secondary design, of course you could also raid your stash and work your background totally scrappy, or for a cleaner look use just one background fabric throughout.
“For just an accent of colour, I added two flanges to the quilt. It’s a nice way to add a ‘border’ without growing your quilt – it doesn’t add any width or length to the finished size. To make your flange effective, it’s important to have a contrast between the flange and both sides of the quilt that it touches. I used a new fabric for both flanges and the binding, this fabric doesn’t appear anywhere else within the quilt, but I feel it helps to pull the quilt together,
