Plonking our shopping bags down in the coffee shop, I didn’t need to look at the menu.

‘Two cappuccinos please,’ I said to the waitress.

Every Thursday, my daughter Claire, 31, and I went shopping together before having a coffee.

‘Tell me about the holiday, love,’ I said to her.

She and her husband, Phillip, then 31, and their kids, Keiren, eight, and Jade, seven, had just got back from a trip overseas.

‘It was amazing!’ she beamed, saying they were thinking of booking another break.
