Pixie watched absent-mindedly, sitting in her favourite spot on the pale pink sofa near the window. She expertly licked her black, white and ginger fur coat, starting with her tail, moving along her back and ending at the back of her pointy ears.
She prized herself on keeping herself neat and clean at all times, as most felines do, bathing herself in her saliva six to eight times a day.
Pixie liked a good western film. It’s something her mistress, Miss Ellie, loved to watch.
Miss Ellie was a quirky, quiet, 73-year-old with a small and delicate frame. She collected Victorian teacups, fruit magnets and multicoloured cardigans. She was a lonely woman who hardly mixed with people, and her son visited only three times a year or so.
