‘I’d settle for a few sparks, never mind a fire’
‘There’s something different about you’
Yvonne looked across the room at her husband of 30 years and sighed loudly, but Jeff was deep in his book and didn’t look up.
She glanced at her watch. It was only nine o’clock but she yawned extravagantly and stretched, hoping he’d notice that her top buttons were undone.
‘I’m off to bed. Coming?’
‘In a minute.’ He kept his finger on the page. ‘Just finishing this chapter.’
‘OK.’
Lying alone between the sheets had no appeal. Yvonne felt like having some fun, but lately Jeff simply didn’t read her signals. Was age just catching up with him? He was only 50… Maybe his job was getting too much for him. He’d been pretty glum lately, hardly cracking a smile at anything.
A horrible thought struck Yvonne… Was he just turned off when he looked at her?
She gazed critically at her reflection in the mirror, but decided there wasn’t much wrong
