High pressure inside the eye damages the optic nerve, causing visual field loss

Glaucoma is a complex group of eye diseases usually associated with high pressure within the eye, damaging the optic nerve that transfers visual information from the eye to the brain, resulting in visual loss.

There are three main types of glaucoma: primary, secondary, and developmental (glaucoma in babies and children). Diagnosis is not always easy. Different tests will be needed to confirm how and why optic nerve damage has occurred.

In a normal eye, there’s a healthy balance between the production and drainage of fluid. The pressure may vary slightly at different times
