WHAT ARE THEY?

Red blood cells are small flat cells that carry oxygen about the body by means of haemoglobin. They are extremely numerous – they make up around 84% of the body’s cells and 40-45% of the blood’s volume. On their surfaces are special proteins that determine our blood type.
