Everyone on the bus turned to stare. Someone tutted. The sounds coming from Bethan’s supermarket bag for life were incessant.
She peeped inside and a little furry face gazed back at her – then the kitten started to meow again.
‘Shh!’ Bethan whispered. How could such a small thing make such a loud noise?
An elderly woman sitting opposite smiled. ‘Sounds like someone’s hungry,’ she said.
‘Er, yes, probably,’ Bethan muttered, pressing the bell for her stop.
