About this audiobook

A night spent sleeping on dirt and leaves is not how Claire Matchett expected to spend her vacation. She thought this would be a break from the stresses of work and raising her young children. A chance to repair her damaged marriage. A week of hiking and hot tubs with two other couple friends. It sounded like heaven. Then Claire’s minivan breaks down on a lonely dirt road. With no cell reception, the group has no choice but to hike the rest of the way to their hotel. But it turns out the woods aren’t as easy to navigate as they thought. Hours later, they are lost. Hopelessly lost. And as they navigate deeper into the woods, the members of their party are struck down mysteriously one by one. Has a wild animal been hunting them? Or is the hunter one of them? But as more time passes, one thing becomes clear: Only one of them will return home alive.

I've listened to a couple of Frieda's book and enjoyed them enough. However, this one felt like it was written by AI. None of the characters were likable. Some of the writing was ridiculous and felt forced. Not a good read imo. She has better books out there. Really tried to like this one.

The ending… I never would have suspected ! Clever to use a male voice on the “anonamous” chapters!!

Meh. Sometimes her stories are too ornate and detailed. This is one of those.

Possible spoilers....This was a very quick book to listen to. I liked it and Im not gonna lie but the last 2 hrs were tons of fun because it just goes full pedal to the medal. Also, this plays very much like an old cheesy horror movie with the twist, anyone remember "The Roommate" ? That's what it reminded me of. Also, the epilogue had me in stitches. Straight up psychopath.

The narrator did a good job. The story is average for stories in this genre. I give it an extra store for being able to finish the whole book. Straightforward and easy to follow.

Okay, but largely forgettable. So forgettable, in fact, that 2 months after I listened to it, I started reading it again because I'd totally forgotten I'd already read it! It took 2 chapters for me to realize...

The plot of the story was good. Loved how the author kept you guessing throughout. But ending was super disappointing and not believable for the villain. Please make sure your future villains have more motive, more skin in the game and aren't so wholely disconnected from the plot. I feel like a lot of time was spent writing this book and then, like a kid on the morning his homework was due, got up and scratched in a couple sentences to call it done.
