About this audiobook

""A romantic comedy that's fun and flirty, young and fresh."" – Popsugar (22 of the Best Books This Winter Has to Offer)

One of Oprah Magazine's 22 Romance Novels That Are Set to Be the Best of 2020

Mia Sosa delivers a sassy, steamy #ownvoices enemies-to-lovers novel, perfect for fans of Jasmine Guillory, Helen Hoang, and Sally Thorne!

A wedding planner left at the altar? Yeah, the irony isn’t lost on Carolina Santos, either. But despite that embarrassing blip from her past, Lina’s offered an opportunity that could change her life. There’s just one hitch… she has to collaborate with the best (make that worst) man from her own failed nuptials.

Marketing expert Max Hartley is determined to make his mark with a coveted hotel client looking to expand its brand. Then he learns he’ll be working with his brother’s whip-smart, stunning—absolutely off-limits—ex-fiancée. And she loathes him.

If they can nail their presentation without killing each other, they’ll both come out ahead. Except Max has been public enemy number one ever since he encouraged his brother to jilt the bride, and Lina’s ready to dish out a little payback of her own.

Soon Lina and Max discover animosity may not be the only emotion creating sparks between them. Still, this star-crossed couple can never be more than temporary playmates because Lina isn’t interested in falling in love and Max refuses to play runner-up to his brother ever again...

I loved this rom-com because it was a mix between English and Portuguese language and how I’m Brazilian, it makes a lot of sense to me. I thought that the way she speaks doesn’t need the translation. I loved the history between Lina and Max, they were so involved with each other, so in sync. Sometimes I hated Andrew, like in that moment that he come up with his liar. And I was desperate when I was abou 90% of the book and they were fighting yet. But I think the book ends just perfect. I think that would be better if she had written an epilogue. And about the narrators, I loved the fact that was two, one for Max and other for Lina, but I didn’t think that the Max’s voice was the way I expected from him, like character. But the reading was awesome at the end. And I’m anxious to read her next book about Dean, Max’s friend, and I hope he appears in that book too.

I enjoyed the story, but I found the narration lacking, especially the male narrator's attempt to portray certain characters, which I found difficult to listen to.

It’s fine. Not great. Completely predictable. The banter wasn’t great either. The biggest thing to me was the ending left me not feeling satisfied for some reason. I just feel like something was missing. Maybe the last chapter should have been in the other characters viewpoint.

I haven't got much to add to the comments I've read below - I endorse "a cute read". The characters were strong and engaging. I wish I could remember how it ended! I've been churning through so many novels like this, similarly good reads, they are starting to overlap. 90% of my reads are taken from novels or authors recommended on best of or favorite lists - and it has paid off.

The book is good but I almost stopped listening to it because of the males voice.

Great book and storyline but the male narrators imitation of a woman was horrendous. Like nails on a chalkboard. I had to stop and start so many times and eventually skip past the parts when he was imitating.

I enjoyed the story, but the male narrator could've been better. I didn't mind his voice or story telling but when he spoke as Lena it was very cringy. He sounded like he was an old woman with a cold ??. Love Love loved the female narrator she was PERFECTLY casted!!!!

I so saw that pepper scene in the restaurant coming. Hahahaha!
I enjoyed Max and Lina, very cute and I am looking forward to reading more from this author. My only negative comment would be that after Max and Lina unexpectedly found themselves partaking in a couples retreat, the story went a little dull and then felt rushed at the ending.

Cute and wholesome whilst tackling some serious topics, I really enjoyed it! The banter between the couple is soo good too ;)

This was a fun story, yes a little risqué with the whole your brother is better vibe but still a fun story. My only issue is that even though that I would’ve enjoyed it more if the woman read all the female parts and the man read all the male parts. His reading of the female parts in particular really took me out of the story.

Not always a huge fan of the fake break up near the end to get people to keep reading.

The story was cute, witty, and funny.
The male narrator BOTCHED his reading. It was extremely hard to listen to this book due to the male narrator. If I was the author I’d demand a re-read with a different male reader. The book definitely would’ve gotten 5 stars from me but the male reader…. Just TERRIBLE.

The story would get four stars. The performance would get 2, so I am averaging it. The one flaw that I found with the story is that I really wish that the Portuguese would have been translated-- even in thought-- by the main character more often. I feel like I missed a bit of what her mother and aunts were saying. The story was sweet, and cute, and just what I needed.
The female narrator was GREAT. The male narrator was not. Not even a little. His female voices were grating, and the male voices that were not Max where also obnoxious and whiny. I found myself wishing he would have just read in a his normal voice, because his normal voice was nice.

I quite liked the story (the ending did feel a bit rushed though) and loved having a Brazilian-American main character, but what I could not get over was the male narrator. The voices he chose to use whenever characters other than Max talked sounded as if he was making fun of them. This did take me out of the story almost every time.

    4.0 ?

This book really delivered on the friends to enemies trope. I also loved that it brought in the author’s Brazilian-American culture. Yes, it dragged in the middle but the characters are adorable and their story is cute that it more than makes up for it.

I really hated the voice used by the male narrator for the female main character though.

Super fun read and loved the narrators. A little corny with the jokes at times, but all in all the best beach read ever. Appreciate the representation as well.

I really liked this to begin with. I liked the characters of Max and Lina and the glimpses of Brazilian culture. As another reviewer mentioned, I did find it slightly annoying that the Brazilian Portuguese didn’t always get translated or explained but I can see it would be difficult in an audio book. I also wasn’t keen on the voice that the male narrator used for Lina although I did like the use of a male and female narrator for the Lina and Max chapters.

However, what spoilt the novel for me was the ending. SPOILER ALERT. Lina is supposed to be this great professional wedding planner but she has no qualms about making a speech at her cousin’s wedding (just after her cousin has warned people not to do this) and upstaging her favourite cousin. That lost it a star.

5 stars. Mia Sosa's a new author for me. I was quickly drawn into story. I did not like the numerous boring emails between H and h. The characters were colorful and I cared about H and h.

Story was decent but could not stand the male lead character when he would make other voices. So very annoying and I had to sped through those parts.

It was a good book. My only problem was the guy trying to do a female's voice, made him sound like Donald Trump

Romcoms are mostly a hit or miss for me and this one is just in between.

This was a cute and fun romcom and there are a few moments that I got bored with the interaction between the characters nevertheless, I manage through.

I liked the male voice of Max but I didn’t liked it when he tries to read Lina’s lines with that whiny thrill voice.
