Siddhartha is one of the great philosophical novels. Profoundly insightful, it is also a beautifully written story that begins as Siddhartha, son of an Indian Brahman, leaves his family and begins a lifelong journey towards Enlightenment.
On the way he faces the entire range of human experience and emotion: he lives with ascetics, meets Gotama the Buddha, learns the art of love from Kamala the courtesan, and is transformed by the simple philosophy of the ferryman Vasudeva whose wisdom comes not from learned teachings but from observing the River.

Great mystery that takes place in Boston, with the African American cook as the sleuth. Great commentary on relationships across race and class, but leavened with humor and good writing. I found the book by reading the NYT obits which led me to the author, Barbara Neely. So glad to have discovered her-- late, but even so
Hot, Hot, Hot! I cant get enough of this family! I wish I had a guy like Ryland in my life! I cant wait to read the rest of the series
I love the idea of including this title and future curriculum in my classroom! I am always looking for multicultural authors and stories, and one that features a female hero is icing on the cake!
For me, reading the story not only propelled me to ano
hero happens to be female, and there are strong female characters, does not mean they are feminists. But I do like the matter-of-fact way that things like sexual identity are addressed.
As a huge fan of YA fantasy, and age appropriate romance, I found this lovely book “ticked all the boxes.” I’m excited to introduce it to future students!
Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to read it!
Note: Although the voice actor reading the audiobook did a credible job with many of the characters, I found her caricature portrayal of a couple (especially Parvenah) annoying and almost offensive - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5For people who like literature, they have a book with which they can obtain more information while spending time while the literary discourse is presented naturally.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I read this fiction. Initially I thought it is biography of Gautama Buddha. But, Siddhartha is another character similar to Lord Buddha who leave house and family with friend Govinda to discover meaning of life. His friend became disciple of Lord Buddha, whereas he followed his own path (merchant, love, ferryman) and finally discover the meaning of life.
Good story, I bought it as Maple Classic for Rs 80 in 2019. It has 120 pages in simple English. Must for all with deep thoughts. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A very nice book about Buddhism and Hinduism, totally recommended since we can learn and see a lot of information that we don't find often anywhere, excellent
