He graduated from Berry College in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in history, then received his juris doctorate from Marquette University Law School in 2007. He has written local columns and blogs for his local Patch website, followed now by his first ebook, "An Attorney's Guide to Secession." Rik generally presents a libertarian to conservative viewpoint on his topics, analyzing them through his education in law and history and attempting (if not succeeding) at injecting a degree of humor or satire into his writing. Rik lives in Wisconsin with his wife and has his first child on the way.

      Introduction

      So you are fed up with the way the country is headed? You feel like the political establishment doesn't reflect your views? That both parties present candidates that will infringe on your rights and freedoms – just a question of which ones and how much infringement? Perhaps you recognize that the country we call the United States is nothing like that described in the 1787 Constitution?

      You may, or may not, be a minority in your own homeland, one of the few on the train that sees it is barreling forward to the end of the track, and accelerating towards that fate. People who see the end coming have done all that they can to change the train's course – often to no avail. Usually, their solution is to build a little more track in front of the speeding train – merely postponing the inevitable. At some point, however, the train will run out of track. Unless we find a way to switch the train from one track to another, its destination is inevitable.

      So, enlightened one, how do you save yourself from the predestined crash?

      The answer that Americans have tried for centuries is to somehow remove the car in which they sit from the speeding train. We
