Never Mock God: An Unauthorized Investigation into Paranormal State's "I Am Six" Case

About this ebook
Paranormal State's "I Am Six" episode is a perfect American horror tale -- for all the wrong reasons. It stars the ambitious founder of the Paranormal Research Society, an attention-seeking client, a bumbling group of paranormal investigators, a psychic-medium in search of ratings, and a rogue exorcist.

Never Mock God - Kirby Robinson
INTRODUCTION
It's 4:01 AM. Sleep has yet to come. When I was younger as soon as my head hit the pillow I fell asleep. But those days are long gone.
When I lay down now I know they watch in the shadows. When you rattle the cages of demons, they never forget and if you happen to do it every day, they will seek to repay you. So they are always there waiting and watching always close—but never too close—to give themselves away. At last, sleep begins to envelop me, my eyelids close and ...
The ringing phone shatters the predawn silence.
Few people have the number that will reach me 24/7, and they know it's not too wise to call me at this time in the morning...that is, unless it's urgent. I admit it; I really do enjoy confronting demons in the name of GOD. The machine picks up and I hear an unfamiliar voice. But the name that referred them to me I knew and respected. This person wanted to talk right now and left a number in which to call them back A.S.A.P.
I roll out of bed, go to the bathroom, and afterwards splash cold water on my face. I call the person back and after a few words of introduction, they got down to business.
I want to hire you to write a book.
I asked them if they had the right person. My books are blacklisted. The airwaves are shut down for me for the most part, and I had a book already in the works.
It doesn't matter. You’re the right person to write about this story you already know a lot about it.
That got my attention. And then I heard those two dreaded words:
Paranormal State.
I have said and written all I wanted about that show and all the fakery they took part in. Also, it was off the air. Some of the para-celebrities went on to bigger, and in some ways, better things. Others held on by a thread to some kind of career, and others had faded away. For those who are unfamiliar with the term, a para-celebrity is an individual that is well known within the paranormal field. It can be for their work in the paranormal media or for ghost hunting. While some are legitimate, others try to fool the public into believing they are experts in paranormal matters, when they aren't.
'I Am Six.' I want you to expose it. They're about to bring it back up on a webinar charging 75 dollars.
I knew they never did anything free of charge and they kept trying to milk as much money out of past cases as much as they could. And I did some basic math.
If they enticed ten suckers into forking over $75.00, they've earned $750.00.
100: $7,500
1,000: $75,000
5,000: $375,000
I think you get the drift.
"Why not you? You've got credibility within the paranormal field and you've published in the past.
It's either you or the lies will keep being spread.
Okay, but if I curse your name, don't blame me.
As to payment, I told the caller to keep their money, because this was the right thing to do.
I hung up the phone, rolled over, and tried to sleep but the images in the shadows really began to dance. What had just been a dark shadow in the window suddenly had bright red eyes. This book was going to piss off the living as well as the demonic.
After just a few hours of sleep, I woke up. The memory of last night's phone call resurfaced. I hoped it was a dream but looking at my incoming call history, I knew it wasn't. What had I gotten myself into? What kind of hell was headed my way for my efforts?
By telling the truth about the case and doing a thorough and fair investigation. Let them say what they say. The truth is the truth and it needs to be told.
The I Am Six
case is a landmark episode on Paranormal State. It's not a landmark for being groundbreaking or honest. It's not hailed as a how-to-perform an exorcism on [cable] TV. It's a landmark case because everything was done incorrectly from start to finish. In short, it's an example of how NOT to perform an exorcism. It also ushered in the beginning of the demon hunter craze that rules the paranormal community. It also started hijacking the church from dealing with demonic activity. Nowadays it seems that all you have to do is read a few books, watch paranormal TV shows incessantly, and attend conferences. By following those three steps, you can become a demonologist and perform deliverances and exorcisms.
As we go through the case we'll look at the two episodes, the original and the follow-up, The Possession: Return of Six,
in detail. We'll point out the errors in the steps they took to remove the alleged evil spirit[s]. Additionally, we'll briefly focus on a third episode, The Devil in Syracuse
in the final pages of this book.
Our position on the credibility of events presented on Paranormal State is that there is no credibility. We won't bore readers who have taken the time to read our past two books on the subject or the many blogs I've written on the subject at my Eye on the Paranormal blog. In fact, I recommend the more recent version of the eBook, Paranormal State Exposed, as it clearly shows the entire Paranormal State debacle.
We have shown beyond a doubt that PRS faked evidence, lied to the audience, or misinformed the viewers of the facts. They staged scenes, took part in deceptive editing and worst of all, used clients and their suffering for the sake of ratings and the advancement of their careers. They never addressed the clients' needs—they only exploited them.
A note about our sources:
We have drawn on our past investigations into the I Am Six
case as well as a recent trip to Quincy, Illinois. We talked to the people who lived on the same block as well as in the surrounding area. We talked to people within the city of Quincy and Adams County who have an interest in the paranormal field. We talked to various citizens of the community who knew the family and knew of events that took place during the 2008 and 2009 filming. Finally, we talked to the good people of St. Francis Solanus Roman Catholic Parish of Quincy, Illinois.
Over the past few years, we have interviewed people from the production team who filmed the episodes. We have even talked to members of PRS and para-celebrities connected to the show that willingly opened their homes to us.
We have never paid anyone for information nor have we ever offered money in exchange for information.
In the case of this book, many who talked to us did so asking that their name not be revealed. We wholeheartedly accept these terms and won't mention their names. This might cause some to question whether this invalidates their information.
In the case of the production team, if their names went public it would cost them future employment, as they are divulging production secrets.
PRS members who might still be active within the group may agree with the goals of the organization, yet feel the team made a mistake in doing the show and the two episodes in question.
Para-celebrities who worked on the show fear being blackballed within the community.
Local residents fear that strangers would show up on their doorsteps and might face public attacks. This happened to Kelli Ryan the client that came forward from The Messenger
episode. She and her husband had people showing up on their property at all hours. The trespassers made threats and demanded she retract her statements concerning the fakery and deceptions that took place on her case.
Nothing was taken at face value. We never informed any interviewee what others had told us to keep them from faking statements. We saw pictures and watched footage. We asked the same question in multiple ways to see if we would get the same response. We sought out how many times others stated the same thing and even returned multiple times to interview the same person to see if we would get the same response.
We even visited sites near the home to see if you could hear anything going on in the house, or see anything that would be considered paranormal. If you stood in such a way you could observe things going on outside the house and not be seen.
My Position on Reverend Andrew Calder & Father Bob Bailey
Reverend Andrew Calder, who recently departed us after a long illness, was the first of three clergy members featured on Paranormal State. He was later followed by Father Bob Bailey, and finally, Father Jim Anziano.
Reverend Andrew Calder was only featured in two episodes: The Devil in Syracuse
and I Am Six.
The Devil in Syracuse
was one of the few episodes that did have a demon present during filming. Raymond, the client, had a history in the dark arts, which allowed doors to be open, giving legal spiritual authority for a demon to be in the family's home. The demon had no interest in PRS or anyone from the show, its sole interest was in Raymond, and I would call it a real case.
I have to be fair and note that when it came to confronting the demon it was
