About You
Some questions to consider
Please take a moment to reflect on the questions below. Jot down your answers on a piece of paper, or better still, buy a really nice journal or notebook; something that is special to you, that you will enjoy touching, opening and writing in.
• How often do you write?
• How much does getting published matter to you?
• Why do you want this?
• What are you prepared to give up?
• How persistent are you?
• What difference will creative success make to your life?
• Who else could benefit from your success?
Focusing your intentions
For this first section you will need at least two hours of uninterrupted time so that you can focus on opening up to your creativity.
You will need:
• Pen
• Paper
• Large sheet of art paper – A3 size seems to work best for many people.
• Old magazines or photographs – anything that grabs your eye.
• Scissors
• Glue
• Felt tips or crayons
• Mandala pattern – there are numerous books on mandalas, so we’ve listed a few in at the end of this book. For getting you started quickly and cheaply, we recommend you go to Google Images and type in ‘free mandala colouring patterns for adults’ and see what you get. New designs are being added all the time.
Actions
Make a list of your writing wishes, as if money and time were no barriers. Write down everything you can think of, even if some of them feel a bit scary at the moment. You will grow into them!
• Where are you now with your writing?
• Where would you like to be in five years time? What will your life be like?
• What will the ‘new you’ look and behave like?
• Identify anything that is holding you back. Many people talk about negative messages from the past, like a teacher they didn’t get on with or a disapproving parent. Your blockage may be related to a past relationship or something in the present. What is it? Write it down in detail.
• Pick one writing wish that you can make a start on now.
Visualisation for success
There are many guided visualisations available for free from the internet. For a guided meditation with a voice, you will find several to choose from. Just go to ‘Google’ then select ‘You Tube’ and type ‘guided meditation’ or ‘guided meditation for creativity’ or ‘creative
