Calm My Troubled Heart - Rob Durney
lost.
The world is no stranger to suffering. Suffering takes many forms, but one thing that all suffering shares in common is it often makes a person feel alone … trapped in misery. Knowing that God will never leave us helps, but sometimes it just doesn’t seem to be enough. Feelings of helplessness and hopelessness can creep in. Calm My Troubled Heart
explores these powerful emotions and reminds us, as do the psalms in the Bible, that we are not alone and real help is really there. God knows what it is to suffer; He understands, and we truly never suffer alone. He is there to calm our troubled hearts.
Calm My Troubled Heart
How long, O Lord, must I suffer alone?
The torments of my heart are ever with me;
they steal my sleep and turn my day to darkest night.
My peace has fled me.
I have tried to give my burdens to You, but still feel
their weight pressing down on me.
The darkness closes in on me,
and I cannot find the way out;
my tears roll ceaselessly down.
I know You understand me, Lord;
I know that You have felt the rejection,
the pain, and the loneliness.
Your tears, like blood, have stained the ground;
You felt abandoned in Your time of need.
Stand with me now, O Lord.
Be my strength in my weakness.
With Your marvelous light, chase away
the darkness all about me.
Embrace me, and calm my troubled heart.
How blessed I am to know my Lord has
not abandoned me.
How blessed I am to know my Lord hears my cry.
How blessed I am to know I do not suffer alone.
Embrace me, O Lord, and calm my troubled heart.
All of us have gotten off track before, and some of us more than a time or two. Sometimes it takes us a long time to figure out that we are not where we want to be or should be, and the journey back can seem very long. Some may breathe a heavy sigh of resolve and turn around. Others may begin to despair and feel like they will never get back. Some may be so far from where they should be that they don’t even know which direction to begin. And others may just sit down and beat themselves up for allowing themselves to get so sidetracked. "Bring Me Home, Lord" is a reminder that no matter the reason we are where we are, we are never lost; God knows exactly where we are.
His reach is always far enough to bring us back home.
Bring Me Home, Lord
How did I get here and how has it come to this?
There are no signs and nothing looks familiar;
even the faces of those around me seem strange.
My own face stares back a shadow of what I was.
How did I lose my way?
My eyes—it must have been my eyes;
I was always so close to You, Lord,
whenever my eyes stayed on You.
Where You would go, I would follow;
I looked to You, and You cared for me.
How did the world distract me?
What caught my eye and drew me
