Clare Liang was the General Manager for a well-known Swedish medical company based in Malaysia. In 2007 and 2012, she negotiated two medical investments totalling 10.7 million MYR from Swedish investors into Malaysia. In both cases, she secured all the government approvals required; hunted for a good location and sourced for the land; designed and arranged for the building of the factory, supporting infrastructure and utilities; interviewed all the candidates and trained the staff; and finally began operations in Oct 2007, about three-and-a-half months after she started.Clare has been running operations for Bactiguard since 2012. Under her leadership, Bactiguard (and the previous company Redsense Medical) achieved remarkable product-quality metrics of zero product recalls and zero customer complaints; an unheard-of annual staff-turnover-rate of almost zero percent for both white-collar and blue-collar workers; and one of the highest productivity rates in the Malaysian manufacturing industry. Her secret: a family-oriented, scrupulously-fair work environment that stresses employer-cum-professional considerations (quality, productivity, mutual respect) as well as employee needs (a safe and pleasant workplace, constant skill upgrading, a genuine listening ear).Clare began her professional life with a B.Sc. in Computer Science, but this was soon overtaken by a passion for manufacturing. Despite the economic crisis of 1998 and no knowledge of engineering, she plunged into her first manufacturing job as a management trainee in the Quality Department of a local company. She has never looked back. Her lack of engineering experience meant that she had to put in double the effort and time of her colleagues to understand engineering matters and resolve technical problems. She has always been driven both to push herself and to contribute the best in every way possible for her employers. With debts of over 300,000 MYR Clare was on the verge of bankruptcy in 2003, but by 2005 had managed to completely repay them and purchase a lovely 5,000 square feet home. She credits her self-belief for the turnaround.Over the course of an eventful journey in life, she has come to realise that there are an enormous number of employees (and employers) living unhappy, unpurposeful, unfulfilled lives; of people consciously and unconsciously belittling themselves; of people on their deathbed burdened with huge regrets; of people struggling to live their life amidst limiting beliefs, fear and seemingly-unsurmountable problems.Clare has resolved to do everything she can to inspire, to empower and to make a difference in other peoples lives. She wants to share the personal life experiences, insights, strategies and tools that have allowed her to be the master of her life, to let her life by design and not by default. She believes that everyone can learn to do the same, and wants to reach out to as many people as she can with her message to take control of your own life, to live a life of passion and excellence, to live life by design – to live a life with no limiting beliefs.Clare is a Certified NLP Master Practitioner, a certification recognised and endorsed by the American Board of NLP.“If you want your life to be different, you have to start living life differently!”~ Clare Liang ~

I have known Clare for more than a decade (and have experienced - to a smaller extent - what she has gone through). When I first met her, it was a case of instant dislike, but today, more than a decade later, we are the best of friends, due mostly to her humility, sincerity and wisdom.
"Be like the flowing river, Silent in the night.
Be not afraid of the dark.
If there are clouds in the sky,
Remember, clouds, like the river, are water,
So, gladly reflect them too,
In your own tranquil depths"
~ Manuel Bandeira ~

FOREWORD
Malaysia has made remarkable progress since independence from Great Britain in 1957.
It has one of the best economic records in Asia: GDP has grown at an average 6.5% per annum for almost 50 years; the 2014 nominal per-capita income was about US$12,200, making it a mid-income country; and the unemployment rate was an enviable 2.9% in April 2014. Today, Malaysia has a newly-industrialised market economy, ranked third-largest in Southeast Asia and 29th-largest in the world.
Adding to the accolades, Malaysia is a founding member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the East Asia Summit (EAS) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and a member of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the Commonwealth of Nations, and the Non-Aligned Movement.
Clearly, Malaysia’s progress has been impressive. Nevertheless, just as with many other newly-developed and developing countries in the throes of globalisation, progress has come at a cost, one borne unevenly by the different sectors of society. Change - globalisation, urbanisation, technology - has undoubtedly both benefitted society and challenged some of its less-adaptable members.
Urbanisation - that headlong rush to metropolitan areas where the opportunities, savvy malls and bright lights are - has resulted in massive population movements, especially of the young, causing urban congestion and rural under-development.
While technology is easily accessible, giving Malaysians greater access to the world, there are many individuals who have yet to catch up with the full benefits of ‘high-tech’ life and globalisation. How then do we reconcile national progress and individual challenges?
People tend to give the same responses when asked about their challenges: the economy, the government or the boss; not having enough money to procure the things that ostensibly provide happiness; not enough time to do everything they want to do; not having
