A leader doesn’t exist as an independent body, it exist as a connection between individuals. An agreement made towards the groups best interests. A leader must be able to recognise where they and their team are and where they are heading and the best way to get there. The best leaders, like mentors, guide us within the frame of developing not only our skillsets but also our individuality.
Leaders have the ability to balance their tremendous creative power with a humble realism. This honesty does not hinder a leader’s ability to either think or act, quite the opposite. These attributes lead to a higher quality of action that is congruent with individual and company values and a high level of success.
By setting measurable objectives to use as signposts on the way to achieving a goal the organised leader keeps their team on track. To be an effective leader you will need to master many skills both practical and interpersonal but none more important than the following:
A leader must accept reality and then act accordingly.
Accepting the reality of a situation may not at first appear to be a skill however, being able to disengage from your emotions and preconceptions in order to make the most logical decision does take a lot of practice, you must be vigilant not to let your emotions get the best of you when making decisions.
To act accordingly could mean anything from upgrading your skillset to putting in overtime, it could even mean accepting that a current strategy isn’t working and recognising that it is time for change. The key is recognising and accepting the realities and outcomes attached to the current situation and then influencing them to our advantage. This is accomplished through the following traits:
A leader possesses charisma.
A leader has very high levels of influence.
Leaders have outstandingly patience.
Leaders have good attention spans and focus.
