About this ebook

THE SERPENTS SEED expounds upon a Biblical doctrine that is essential for the proper understanding of both the Scriptures and the present day, but which has remained obscured for the past fifteen hundred years. And the doctrine is this: that since the creation of man we have been at war, not only against Satan and his corruptive influences, but against the literal offspring of fallen angels and mortal women. These hybrid creatures reigned during the days of Noah and Abraham, battled Joshua and King David for control of Israel, tormented the Jews during the time of Jesus, and continue to roam the earth even today. Our society, even our church, has fallen under the sway of these ancient and terrible beings. Thus The Serpents Seed was written so that we might not depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils (1st Timothy 4:1).

    The Serpent's Seed - Joel H. Emerson

    PART ONE

    THE SERPENT’S SEED

    IN THE DAYS OF NOAH

    CHAPTER ONE

    THE ANGELS WHO WOULD BE GODS

    In order to understand the on-going war between the Serpent’s seed and the seed of Eve, let us start at the very beginning.

    In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

    Holy Bible, Genesis 1:1

    In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

    —Holy Bible, John 1:1-3

    "For by him [God] were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible…"

    —Holy Bible, Colossians 1:16

    Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.

    —Holy Bible, Nehemiah 9:6

     . . . I saw the LORD sitting upon his throne, and all the host of heaven standing on his right hand and on his left.

    —Holy Bible, 2nd Chronicles 18:18

    These passages establish that God created all things and all beings, both visible and invisible. Among his creations was the host of heaven.

    *     *     *

    And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven…

    —Holy Bible, Luke 2:13-15

    And the angels, the children of the heaven, saw…

    —Enoch[2] 6:2

    God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods… I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High…

    —Holy Bible, Psalm 82:1-6

    Here God expands his revelation to us regarding the host of heaven. We now learn that the host of heaven were angels[3] and that they were known as the children of heaven, the children of the most High, and gods.

    *     *     *

    "Are they [angels] not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?"

    —Holy Bible, Hebrews 1:14

    Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

    —Holy Bible, Exodus 20:3

    And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things. Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.

    —Holy Bible, Revelation 22:8-9

    O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy endureth for ever.

    —Holy Bible, Psalm 136:2

    God’s design called for the angels to be ministering servants, not the object of man’s worship. Here, and as previously noted in Nehemiah 9:6, the angels themselves worshiped God as their God. Likewise, it was God alone whom humans were to worship and heed.

    "Where wast thou [Job] when I laid the foundations of the earth? . . . Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?"

    Holy Bible, Job 38:4-7

    "For who in heaven can be compared unto the LORD? who among the sons of the God[4] can be likened unto the LORD?"

    —Holy Bible, Psalm 89:6

    Here we see the host of heaven being called sons of God.

    *     *     *

    Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

    —Holy Bible, Job 1:6

    Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.

    —Holy Bible, Job 2:1

    And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, and prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

    —Holy Bible, Revelation 12:7-9

    "Thou[5] hast been in Eden the garden of God… thou art the anointed cherub… thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God…"

    —Holy Bible, Ezekiel 28:13-16

    How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God.

    —Holy Bible, Isaiah 14:12-13

    And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

    Holy Bible, 2nd Corinthians 11:14

    These verses establish that Satan was an angel/son of God. Furthermore, Revelation 12:7-9 establishes that Satan was known as the old serpent, and that he—along with those angels who sided with him—was cast out of heaven to dwell upon the earth.

    *     *     *

    So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

    —Holy Bible, Genesis 1:27

    And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

    —Holy Bible, Genesis 3:20

    And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

    —Holy Bible, Genesis 3:2-6

    "And the LORD God said unto the serpent[6] . . . I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed[7] . . ."

    —Holy Bible, Genesis 3:14-15

    Genesis 3:14-15 establishes that there would be offspring of both the Serpent and of the woman, and that there would be hostility between the Serpent’s descendants and the woman’s descendants. We know that the woman’s seed is all of mankind, but who are the Serpent’s seed? If the Serpent were nothing more than a snake, then his seed would merely be all the snakes of the world. But as we saw in Revelation 12:7-9, the Serpent is Satan. Thus the Serpent’s seed would necessarily be something more than a snake.

    CHAPTER ONE CONCLUSIONS

    1. God created heavenly beings known as lesser gods, the sons of God, and angels.

    2. Some of these angels were rebellious and were cast out of heaven to dwell upon the earth.

    3. Satan, the leader of the fallen angels, taught Eve his doctrines. She listened to and heeded his words and sinned against God, and her husband Adam joined her.

    4. Satan was destined to have offspring that would in turn become enemies of the human race.

    CHAPTER TWO

    NOAH AND THE NEPHILIM

    Having established that there would be enmity between mankind and the Serpent’s seed, let us look at the passages that recount the beginnings of this war.

    And Adam lived a hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth… And Seth lived a hundred and five years, and begat Enos… And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan… And Cainan lived seventy years, and begat Mahalaleel… And Mahalaleel lived sixty and five years, and begat Jared… And Jared lived an hundred sixty and two years, and he begat Enoch… And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah… And Methuselah lived an hundred eighty and seven years, and begat Lamech… And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son: and he called his name Noah…

    —Holy Bible, Genesis 5:3-29

    "And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives[8] of all which they chose… . There were Nephilim[9] in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto[10] the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually."

    —Holy Bible, Genesis 6:1-5

    Some theologians hold the view that the sons of God were the godly descendants of Seth, and that the daughters of men were the ungodly descendants of Cain. However, Genesis had clearly-defined genealogies in surrounding passages (Genesis 4:1-2, 4:17-26, 5:1-32, 10:1-32, 11:1-32, etc.), so if the text intended to say the sons of Seth and the daughters of Cain, it would have assuredly done so. Furthermore, the previous chapter of The Serpent’s Seed has already cited the Biblical passages that established the sons of God as heavenly beings. Thus, the passages of Genesis 6:1-5 are describing the heavenly sons of God interacting with the mortal daughters of men.

    One possible objection to the concept of angels and women having sexual intercourse is Mark 12:25. It is important to note that Mark 12:25 states that, For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven. Though at first glance this seems to imply that angels do not marry, and thus could not have offspring, Jesus is careful to describe the state of those angels which are in heaven. The angels who are in heaven are those who did not rebel and fall to earth; it is the rebellious, earth-bound angels who married and sired offspring. Another objection is based on the commonly-held belief that angels are intangible spirits and thus could not have physical relations with women. Yet contained in the Bible are several accounts of angels existing as physical beings: they ate food (e.g., Genesis 18:1-8 & 19:1-3, Psalm 78:24-25) and wrestled with mortals (e.g., Genesis 32:24-25). Jesus himself, after reassuming his heavenly state of being, ate food and could be physically touched (e.g., Luke 24:36-43, John 20:26-28). Heavenly beings are physical entities, able to touch and be touched, able to consume food… and able to have sexual intercourse.

    Thus during the pre-flood days of Noah, fallen angels fathered offspring by human wives. These offspring were called Nephilim, and were mighty and renowned, though they—and all of mankind at that time—were considered evil in God’s sight.

    *     *     *

    And it came to pass when the children of men had multiplied that in those days were born unto them beautiful and comely daughters. And the angels, the children of the heaven, saw and lusted after them, and said to one another: Come, let us choose us wives from among the children of men and beget us children… . And they were in all two hundred; who descended in the days of Jared on the summit of Mount Hermon, and they called it Mount Hermon, because they had sworn and bound themselves by mutual imprecations upon it. . . . "And they [the human wives of the angels] became pregnant, and they bare great giants… the giants turned against them and devoured mankind. And they began to sin against birds, and beasts, and reptiles, and fish, and to devour one another’s flesh, and drink the blood. Then the earth laid accusation against the lawless ones."

    —Enoch 6:1-6 and 7:2-6

    For many angels of God accompanied with women, and begat sons that proved unjust, and despisers of all that was good, on account of the confidence they had in their own strength; for the tradition is, that these men did what resembled the acts of those whom the Grecians call giants. But Noah was very uneasy at what they did; and being displeased at their conduct, persuaded them to change their dispositions and their acts for the better: but seeing they did not yield to him, but were slaves to their wicked pleasures, he was afraid they would kill him, together with his wife and children, and those they had married; so he departed out of that land.

    Antiquities[11] 1.3.1

    These extra-Biblical passages describe what some people during Biblical times believed about the Nephilim: the angels’ offspring were murderers and blood-drinkers. They were also compared with the Grecian giants, stories about whom recounted their cannibalistic tendencies as well as their hatred for heaven.

    *     *     *

    The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.

    Holy Bible, Genesis 6:11-12

    "And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD… . Noah was a just man and perfect[12] in his generations…"

    Holy Bible, Genesis 6:7-9

    Here we see that once angels and Nephilim were upon the earth, mankind became corrupted and violent. Genesis 6:7-9 establishes that because of this, God would destroy everyone—not just men, but beasts as well (as if they too had been somehow corrupted by the angels’ interference). But Noah, who was a just man and perfect in his generations, was chosen by God to be spared from the flood.

    It is of note that mankind—rather than the Nephilim—is the focus of God’s punishment. It is possible that Nephilim were being included here with man, since Genesis 6:4 calls them mighty men, and men of renown. It seems more likely, though, that mankind was heavily to blame for the violent state of affairs, for they were forsaking God and voluntarily marrying lesser gods in order to elevate the status of humanity to a demigod level. In short, the Nephilim were the result of mankind’s idolatry, not the cause of it.

    *     *     *

    And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch… . And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die. But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee. And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.

    Holy Bible, Genesis 6:13-19

    In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights. In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah’s wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark…

    Holy Bible, Genesis 7:11-13

    Noah and his family survived the flood in an ark, along with a select number of animals.

    *     *     *

    And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth… . But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of a man. Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.

    Holy Bible, Genesis 9:1-6

    After the flood, God commanded Noah to neither consume blood nor kill people. Given the behavior of the Nephilim, it appears that God was essentially instructing Noah to avoid repeating the Nephilim’s sins of murder and consuming blood. The importance of this command may be tied to the aforementioned verse from Genesis 6:4, which stated, "There were Nephilim in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them… ," which indicates that there would be Nephilim conceived and born after the flood.

    CHAPTER TWO CONCLUSIONS

    1. In the days of Noah, the angels/sons of God mated with human women and sired offspring through them. These offspring were called Nephilim, men who were famous and powerful. We find from some literature that they were thought to be murderers, cannibals, and blood-drinkers.

    2. God used a flood to purge the world of mankind, as well as the Nephilim.

    3. Noah, who was a righteous man and untainted by the Nephilim bloodline, was chosen by God to survive the flood.

    4. After the flood, God warned Noah not to indulge in murder and blood consumption.

    5. More Nephilim were destined to be born after the flood.

    CHAPTER THREE

    THE GODS AND MEN OF BABEL

    Only a few centuries after Adam and Eve’s exile from the garden, mankind had come within a single generation of losing its war against the Serpent’s seed. But the flood destroyed the Nephilim and mankind alike, which allowed Noah and his family to begin
