About this ebook

In Memory of Don Edgar Lenz (19571983)

In 1983, a recurring dream Paula had proved to be a precognitive warning. The sudden, shocking loss of her brother, Don, that year would come close to completely destroying Paula. She did not know, however, that his death would result in strange occurrences and outreach from him for the rest of her life.

Three days after Dons funeral, Paula had an out-of-body experience with her brothers spirit while she was driving. The result was a visit to infinity and a change in her consciousness.

Paula recounts stories about her brother from her family as well as from Dons closest friends, painting a picture of a beloved brother, son, and friend. She hopes her story will provide comfort to those who have experienced the loss of someone they love deeply.

    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

I thank those friends who listened to my stories about events in the early years after Don’s death and gave me support. Their support helped me through the dark days. I express my gratitude to everyone who urged me to write this book and share my story. I also thank friends who provided reviews and editing services for the book.

I am grateful to my sister, Gloria, for traveling with me on this long road of life without our beloved brother Don, and love and gratitude to my parents Edgar and Millie.

Don’s close friends and cousins willingly provided in their own words some of their memories of adventures with my brother. Several served as pallbearers at his funeral. Thank you John and Elaine Kelbly, Kirby Foltermann, Larry La Vergne, Tex Schmidt, Gary Sims and cousins Tommy Ray and Joni Lenz and their son Don Lenz, and Gary Lenz.

I am grateful and sincerely thankful to Dr. Jan Holden, EdD, for the Afterword, a chapter in which she provides a much deeper perspective on my experience in relation to after-death communications and Near-Death Experiences.

I am honored to have received endorsements for my book from Dr. Kenneth Ring and Nancy Clark. Dr. Ring is best known for his Near-Death Experience research, and Ms. Clark has written a number of books as a result of having had a Near-Death Experience.

    PREFACE

E very day we hear on the news the tragic, sudden and shocking circumstances of deaths. For every death that occurs in such circumstances, there are people who love those who are now suddenly gone from this lifetime. My heart always goes out to each and every person impacted by such losses. I am very familiar with the road they must travel afterwards.

At the time of writing this book, I have lived almost 35 years without my brother Don, more years than he was alive. The stories in the book commemorate who he was as well as show how much he was loved. With my only other sibling, younger sister Gloria, we have spent these years recounting the good times we had with him as well as lamenting the ensuing years without his bright light in our family.

As a businesswoman with a career of more than 40 years, only a few of my closest friends knew anything about my experiences described herein. I was afraid to talk about such things with others because I feared people would think I was crazy, delusional, or simply continuing to imagine these happenings out of grief or depression.

At the urging of the few friends who did know my story, I felt compelled to finally write this book as a way to reach out to others who experience the same loss as our family. Digging deep into my memory and re-experiencing the details described in this book was a very difficult task for me.

When I started writing, I realized that I needed this process to help me heal from the deep wounds of loss and the sorrow. By bringing up these feelings from long ago, I was now able to review them from the viewpoint of more than three decades later. While it took years to integrate into my life the results of my experiences detailed in this book, I have grown by developing more empathy and compassion for others and a deeper sense of service through career paths.

The experience I had following Don’s death is now called an after-death communication (ADC). In this book’s Afterword, however, Dr. Jan Holden explains how my experience and the aftereffects are more in keeping with a Near-Death Experience (NDE). Dr. Holden is a highly acclaimed researcher on spiritually transformative experiences and is a professor at the University of North Texas where she serves as Chair of the Department of Counseling and Higher Education. When she first heard about some of the strange events I have had in the ensuing years since my brother’s death, Dr. Holden said my story was an unusual one and needed to be told.

My after-death communication experience wrought a change in my consciousness. Additionally, I was reassured that life does go on beyond our immediate plane of existence. We are not forgotten by those we have loved, and they do visit us more times than we consciously know. I hope my story provides some comfort to those
