    Introduction

After completing my morning devotion of listening to the National Prayer Everywhere call, I began to study and review several Sunday school lessons about God's judgment that came upon King Solomon's two sons---Jeroboam, who led the nation of Israel (Northern Kingdom) and Rehoboam, who led the nation of Judah (Southern Kingdom). My agitation at studying these expositions intensified the more I pondered them. It was disturbing at how all that sin and rebellion had taken place in that generation and how the people of God had allowed sin to increase and extend to future generations.

I thought they should have understood and joyously accepted the Word of God after all Jehovah God had done for them and was doing for them as His chosen people. I thought they would have listened to all their prophets' warnings and calls for repentance. Haggai had told them, Consider your ways (Haggai 1:5), and Amos and Micah had warned of impending doom, judgment, and captivity under heathen nations unless they repented of their evil ways and returned to God their Father; that should have pierced their hearts and minds deeply, but it did not!
