    Preface

A s an introduction to my upcoming new book about the saga of James A. Burnell, I thought I would whet your appetite about this very unassuming person called Pastor James A. Burnell. By the way, I did pastor for several years at the Center of Life and Truth in Los Angeles, California, at the corner of Forty-Sixth and Compton Avenue.

I copastored with my youngest sister, Pastor Wanda P. Scott, while under the great leadership of the late Bishop King Solomon Burke, who directed us, guided us, advised us, and counseled us in many spiritual things to enhance our personal leadership skills among the flock. It was a very dynamic period of my life, and I experienced personal growth and development as a minister of the gospel.

Under the leadership of Bishop King Solomon Burke, we did many things. For example, we regularly had a radio ministry and invited people for salvation and eventually water baptism. Many of my relatives were involved in our ministry at the Forty-Sixth and Compton location. Queen Mother Burnell was one of our missionaries, and she was always on fire for God!

Queen Mother Burnell was a seasoned church mother who had many years of experience and exposure to the spiritual world. As not only my biological mother but my spiritual mother, she was always very edifying, exalting, and encouraging of our programs at the church. We fed many, many people, and we encouraged many, many people to follow Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior.

What I liked about my personal relationship with the late Bishop King Solomon Burke was that he lived life very large. He was a rather large man. He was the godfather to my nieces and nephews. He loved people, especially children. King Bishop Solomon Burke had over twenty children of his own. We all loved him very much, hallelujah!

I do not know whether many people know that the late King Bishop Solomon Burke was a professional musician with a very melodious and velvet voice. He originated from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and in 2003, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is now walking the streets of glory and is in the Hall of Faith! Praise God.

T his memoir is dedicated to my late mother, Algerine Joe-Burnell, a wonderful missionary of the gospel for over fifty years. She was a marvelous soul winner for Jesus Christ!
