About this ebook
Witchcraft is the belief in systems of power derived from unseen forces. For people who believe in supernatural powers, those forces are quite real and are not merely metaphorical allusions to mundane phenomena.
Most chiefs and kings derive their power from supernatural sources. To date, states and politicians have used witchcraft powers largely for self-enrichment or empowerment.
This is still highly prevalent in the Kingdom of Eswatini and its last Absolute Monarch, where witchcraft is taken seriously and people firmly believe in it. The country has always had a dual system of operation, using modern as well as cultural (witchcraft) methods to deal with prevailing issues. The official motto of the country is “Siyinqaba”, which translates to “we are an enigma”.
There is a story of Swati troops who went to assist the British army during the Second World War. In battle they were saved by witchcraft when they vanished into a supernatural mist and therefore evaded their adversaries.
Ideally, Swati muti is supposed to be used to curb crime, heal the sick, keep families together and protect the nation against disasters and enemy attacks. Instead, it is being used to oppress citizens.
The country’s rulers are safeguarding deep-rooted dark secrets which are the anchor and pillar of the unshaken draconian rule of King Mswati III. These powers are embedded in most of the traditional ceremonies and even overlap with religion. These dark practices are disguised within Christianity to penetrate the populace. Some of the most celebrated pastors are actually prime agents of high-level witchcraft.
This book shares the experience of the author through “kutsebulwa” and exposes how people and systems are being manipulated by traditional and religious structures through an unprecedented use of witchcraft. Citizens are turned into living robots, or killed, so that the ruling regime can oppress and abuse those it governs for its own benefit and without being challenged.

Dedication
To Marilyn my wife, you have carried the crown of our marriage with dignity and rendered me honourable in every corner. You are a proverbs 31 woman in every respect, independent yet submissive, industrious yet loving, caring and there for every member of the family. My best cook of all time, my best friend and advisor who takes interest in all that I do without losing yourself into me but driven by your own purpose. What shall I say unto the lord except Thank you, Lord.
I remain indebted to you because somehow, I feel you outdo me in goodness every day.
You gave up watching soapies to pray for the entire family and teach our children the ways of God. You have given me a happy balanced family and home only through God and nothing else.
Preamble
This book is in the style of a diary and being published posthumously (after the death of the author). It comes in a narrative and by supporting voice recordings on a memory stick, that are to be listened to alongside the chapters.
This is an account of a good seven months that I, Jan Sithole, spent interacting with the two spiritual worlds concerning the country of Eswatini, the good and the bad. I was walking on a rope and only prayer determined which side I leaned towards at any particular moment or hour of the day. It was a very rough ride that is not meant for the flesh. At times I hung in the balance and at times fell into the dungeon yetimfingo where I would be in chains and driven like inkhabi leboshelwe.
Introduction
Martin Luther King Junior said Freedom is never voluntarily granted by the oppressor, it must be demanded by the oppressed.
These are the words that became my conviction and a motivation for me in all seasons of my journey of seeking social justice and freedom for the people of Eswatini. These words still carry so much currency, even into the future.
Here are my words to this generation and the generations to come, derived from my lifetime pursuit for freedom of the people of Eswatini:
"If you
