About this ebook
Negative body image affects people from every walk of life. We all receive messages throughout our lives about “ideal” bodies, and often internalize difficult feelings about ourselves that we can struggle to talk about. We can’t process these feelings on our own.
In Reshape Your Body Image, an audio course from Scribd Coach, body image, self-love, and confidence coach Stacie Garland applies her background in psychology to open up a dialogue about the cognitive underpinnings behind body image and how we can re-route our thinking to have a more positive view of our body and ourselves. With the radical reframing of seeing ourselves and our bodies in a more loving, respectful way at the center of the course, Garland discusses how our body image is formed, how our conditioning contributes to our habit formation, and specific actions we can take to change our habits and move up the ladder of self-love. She also shares exercises to help you apply what you’ve learned right away.
Whether you want to improve your own body image or get a better understanding of the science behind how we see ourselves, you’ll find valuable knowledge in Reshape Your Body Image.

Introduction
Hello and welcome. My name is Stacie Garland, and you’re reading Reshape Your Body Image,
a course from Scribd Coach.
If you’re here today, you most likely have a body. In fact, it’s the one thing we all share in common. Our bodies may vary from person to person, but we all have one. When we first come into this world as children, they are simply a tool for us to function. Arms are for sneaking cookies from the cookie jar. Legs are for playing freeze tag.
But at a certain point, that view switches. Instead of respecting our bodies for the work they do, we see them as extensions of our self-worth. An image is implanted in our brains of what an ideal body should look like based on arbitrary standards of beauty. If we don’t meet those criteria, we see ourselves as unattractive and unworthy, leading to a pitfall of other mental issues down the road.
Negative body image is something that affects people from every walk of life, regardless of gender, race, or ideology. And it has a particular hold on Western women. Because we have all fed into this idea that a certain body type is ideal, it can be difficult to discuss with others. You may feel you won’t get the listening ear you desire from other people. So, you don’t discuss it, choosing instead to deal with it internally.
The problem is that we aren’t very good at processing these issues on our own. The results of poor body image can be unique to every person, but they are usually negative. We can experience more upsetting emotions that lead us to bad relationships with loved ones, inability to connect with others, poor professional performance, and a loss of enjoyment in life overall.
The antidote for this is to talk about what’s happening. And that’s the purpose of this course. We’re going to open up a dialogue to talk about the psychology behind body image and how we can re-route our thinking. Our goal is to have a more positive
