About this ebook
Ethics is much more than just a company's code through a notification or a training session- it is what one believes, how one lives and how one leads his/her life and others. Ethics is relevant to everyone in everyday life as at some point in our professional or personal life one will need to deal with an ethical question, issue or problem. Ethics should be embedded in all we do, building on an individual's or the organization's reputation and credibility in the marketplace, community and society. It is how we put our clients, vendors and our people first. And this reputation for integrity is an invaluable part of one's success.
Conducting business ethically is therefore critical to a company's success in the marketplace. Customers, suppliers and employees will not support a company that is involved in fraudulent, dishonest or unethical practices.
This little book: "Building an Ethical Workplace" is therefore aimed at to help you and members of your organization make ethical behavior a natural part of what must be done every day- with each other, whether with clients, vendors, business partners or the community. The Tools, Exercises and Checklists are designed to help you have a better understanding of this subject to be able to percolate these principles into your system, your family, your workplace, with your colleagues, and community successfully as each of us is responsible for our own actions and that the ethical choice is ALWAYS the best choice.
I strongly recommend this book to be part of a company's code, induction program & regular on-going training activities…a much-needed book out in the market!

About the Author
Foreword
When I was approached by Gerard to write this Foreword for his book: 'Building an Ethical Workplace', my thoughts immediately started reflecting on our first meeting in July, 2013. Exactly 9 years ago, we got in touch with each other to conduct our first training through Gerard, beginning with ‘Business Etiquette & Grooming’- which was a phenomenal success and received very well by all.
Since then, we have utilized Gerard's services almost every year for various other sessions besides Etiquette & Grooming, like Managerial Effectiveness, Professional Selling Skills and most recently for Ethics and Cultural Sensitivity. The fact that Gerard is with us these many years, is enough a testimony to his credentials. Without a doubt Gerard goes down to the level of each participant ensuring they get the best from the session and that is exactly what he has done in his latest book: Building an Ethical Workplace
that I believe is a much needed topic for today.
‘Building an Ethical Workplace’ is the need of the hour, as ethic is one of the key driving factors in workplace productivity. An ethical workplace creates a positive culture for managers and employees, as well as for a successful and thriving business. Organizations with strong workplace ethics add value to the organization and support an environment where employees feel safe, respected and valued. And it starts with the top. Leaders can help create an ethical workplace culture that benefits shareholders, stakeholders, the organization and people in the company. Employees look at top managers to understand what behavior is acceptable. Senior management sets the tone for ethics in the workplace. In fact, studies have revealed that the share prices of firms with the most ethical cultures outperformed the stock market by almost 300 percent, based on the most widely used measures of ethical workplace culture.
An organizational code of ethics and regular training can therefore reduce ethical ambiguities, as they will reinforce the organization’s primary values and the ethical rules that employees are expected to follow. However, managers should remember that a code of ethics is worthless if leaders fail to follow ethical behaviors.
As an entrepreneur myself, I can vouch that a good work ethic is the number one soft skill
