Healing For The Soul: Food for Thought
()
About this ebook
In August of 2020, the Holy Spirit inspired Dr. Hill to once again begin writing poetry, and he found himself composing these works with a passion and fiery dedication that strongly mimicked the way an evangelist would fervently deliver a Sunday morning sermon. The poems demand attention, compelling the reader to engage in personal introspection and reflection, and enjoining each person to place hope in the prospect of not only a meaningful life lived today, but for the promise of lasting goodness and eternity as well. Each composition culminates in a heartfelt plea to trust in Jesus and repent from sin. The author makes it clear, both through his own journey and the wisdom of Scripture, that Jesus changes lives, heals the brokenhearted and resuscitates broken relationships. Many people today feel lost, confused and even hopeless. By immersing oneself in the beauty and power of Dr. Hill’s enlivening words, one will come to the unequivocal awareness that Christ is the answer and way to approach and surmount life’s difficulties. Eternity is forever and God is inviting everyone to be born again by accepting his son’s sacrifice on the cross. Healing for the Soul will inevitably leave the reader pondering the most pressing question of all time: Where will you spend eternity? With the help of this uplifting compilation, the answer to that question will reveal itself to all who choose to hear their message.

I graduated in 1978 from Pershing High School in Detroit, MI. What an exciting time and year! The number
78 is one of my favorites. One phase of my life – high school – was ending, and a new one – college – was soon to begin. Years later, I learned that the number
7 is one of God’s numbers signifying completion.
Eight is often used in the Bible as a symbol for a new beginning. Throughout our lives, we are often in transition. One season ends and, without cease, we embark upon a new beginning. These fresh starts can be exciting, daunting, and challenging. Are you facing a challenging situation today? Are you in transition? God knows. He is with you. He loves you. The number
12 represents the authority or government of God. The twelve stars that surround the numbers
7 and
8 represent God’s authority over both your transitions and your life. As the seasons of your life change, know that God is sovereign and that He is in control (Jeremiah 32:17 NLT). The Bible says that the angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him and delivers them (Psalm 34:7 ESV). This refers to those who revere Him. Is there anything you need with which God can assist? Cast your burden upon the Lord. He will sustain you. (Psalm 55:22 KJV). Talk to Him. He will help you and sustain you through challenging and difficult situations. He will never leave you or forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV). Be encouraged. God is for you and God is with you! You are more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus (Romans 8:37 NASB)!

Author’s Note
I want to thank the two most important women in my life, my mother and my wife, who have each positively influenced me in more ways than I can describe. Without them, this book would simply not have been possible. My mom introduced me to Christ and helped shape my character in my formative years, and my wife always exemplifies Christ, teaching me each day how to live by faith. I thank God for them and love them both! I also want to extend my humblest thanks to the pastors, teachers and people who operate in God’s five-fold ministry gifts, and who have contributed greatly to my Bible education. I have endeavored to follow Christ for the past 38 years, and although I have fallen down many times, God’s unconditional love and forgiveness, despite my disobedience, has been a salve and saving grace for all of my wounds. I owe my life to Him, I love Him, and my hope and prayer is that you will have a Divine encounter with God when reading this book. It is my fervent hope as well that you will be changed internally, in your spirit and in your soul. May He help you, give you hope, encourage you, forgive you, receive you, and make you like His Son.
Hebrews 13:20-21(AMP)
Now may the God of peace (who is the Author and the Giver of peace), who brought again from among the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, by the blood (that sealed, ratified) the everlasting agreement (covenant, testament), strengthen (complete, perfect), and make you what you ought to be and equip you with everything good that you may carry out His will; (while He Himself) works in you and accomplishes that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ (the Messiah); to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
FOREWORD TO HEALING FOR THE SOUL
In this fallen, broken world, many people feel hopeless and despairing. Even prior to the onset of COVID, so many had lost their sense of purpose and destiny, and are now uncertain about both their future and the future of America. There is, however, a solution to the problems we face, and it can be found in a book that many of us know by name: The Bible.
The Bible is unlike any other book ever written. It can ignite one’s faith and set one on a straight and meaningful course, offering a lifetime of joy, peace, discovery, and comfort. It does so by providing the gift of salvation and enjoining its readers to become a follower of Jesus Christ, who promises not only redemption but eternal life as well.
What will your life be like after you die? The Bible clearly delineates the differences between heaven and hell. HEALING FOR THE SOUL
is composed of numerous inspiring poems, each expressing the heartfelt sentiments of a caring and wise disciple of the one true God and His only Son. It is a magnificent, nourishing and soul-searching volume that takes the reader on a journey vividly describing God’s love and unrelenting compassion for mankind. In its pages, you will find the answers you seek, answers that will infuse you with the tools needed to live a life of unwavering faith, in perfect alignment with the vision of your Creator.
This book is for all people. Its purpose is to lead and guide you to the only God-man who identifies with you, who sacrificed His life for you, and who wants to be intimately involved with you on a daily basis. Scour its pages, drink in its sobering and profound message, and most of all, take heed of its time-tested, enduring and life-changing wisdom. HEALING FOR THE SOUL
will change the way you think and live. Read on; your transformation awaits.
DR. NEAL BLAXBERG
Father and Son
Father, I repent for not trusting You.
You are sovereign, and You always come through.
I don’t always do what I should do.
I don’t always do what I know to.
There are parts of me that still don’t yield to You.
My prayers are not answered in the manner or time as I always think.
Martha told Jesus, By this time, he stinks
(John 11:39 KJV).
She was referring to Lazarus, her brother, who had been dead for more than three days.
Sin without repentance causes delays.
Sin without repentance causes decay.
Sin without repentance pushes us away.
Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV) says, Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths.
This requires faith when things are not going well.
It takes faith and trust in God to tell anxiety and fear farewell (Mark 11:22 NLT).
The Adversary wants us to worry and doubt (1 Peter 5:8 NLT),
To be stressed with unbelief because that’s what he’s all about.
This is one reason why the Israelites stayed in the wilderness for so long. They murmured and complained, and the Promised Land for many of them never became their home (Numbers 14:29 ESV).
Jesus asked You, Father, while dying on the cross, "My God, My God, why
has Thou forsaken me?" (Matthew 27:46 KJV). He felt abandoned and alone.
There’s no other person with sinless blood from whom our sins could be atoned.
Sometimes it’s difficult for me to trust You, Father, when my life is out of balance.
Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness, and He overcame every temptation and challenge (Matthew 4:1 NIV).
Jesus said no one can add a day to their life with worry (Matthew 6:27 NASB).
I’m still trying to discipline my mind.
Trust is resting in You when life isn’t clear but blurry (Psalm 27:14 KJV).
How can the fruit of patience be developed when my mind is in a hurry (Galatians 5:22–23 NIV)?
I love You, Father.
Words can’t really express.
I’m so grateful to You for so many things, and You listen to me when I need to get life off my chest.
God, keep pride, bitterness, and all worldliness out of my soul.
Although You’ve given me free will, You know what’s best for me, so my life I’m giving to You.
It’s for You and not me to control.
Help me, Holy Spirit, to bear the fruits of long-suffering and self-control (Galatians 5:22–23 NIV).
It’s a blessing to be in a storm and be able to rest.
I can’t say that I’ve mastered that.
I imagine that for the rest of my life I’ll have another turn at bat. I pray that my relationship with You will never be flat.
You’ve been with me during each test.
How many people have learned to trust You?
How many have Your peace?
How many have learned to speak to their storms and witnessed how You make storms suddenly cease?
I pray that I continue to seek You and each day strive to give You my best; only what I do for Christ will last.
Thank You, God, for forgiving me of my sins and never bringing up my past.
Father, will I ever become the man You want me to be?
What do You see in me that I do not see?
Do I have enough faith to walk on the sea?
God, help my unbelief (Mark 9:24 NLT).
Jesus, thank You for being patient with me and understanding.
I’m still trying to live a peaceful life when my life is overwhelming. Responsibilities come from everywhere, and they are very demanding.
Thank You, Holy Spirit, for being my Comforter and Helper (John 14:26 NASB).
Hide me in the shadow of Your wings, oh God. I just need Your peace and shelter (Psalm 17:8 NIV).
Each day You wake me from my sleep.
To get to the top of my mountain, the path is often steep.
I want to make it, God.
Thank You for giving me the will to fight.
I want to make it, God.
I need the Holy Spirit to live the Word of God because my flesh never wants to do what’s right.
I want to make it, God.
When darkness surrounds me, help me to see Your light.
God, I must leave what’s old and embrace the challenges of the unfamiliar.
Jesus is the chief cornerstone and a master builder (Matthew 21:42 NKJV).
Jesus, help me not to have soul ties with my past.
You determine the seasons of my life and know how long they should last. Some situations will never improve unless I pray and fast.
Psalm 55:22 (AMP) says, Cast your burden on the Lord (releasing the weight of it) and He will sustain you; He will never allow the (consistently) righteous to be moved (made to slip, fall, or fail).
How encouraging this scripture is, Father, when I feel like I won’t make it!
Thank You, Father, for Your grace, because there are many days when I just can’t take it.
You are my light and my shield, and it’s to Your will that I choose to yield.
God, Jesus is my example in whom You were well pleased (Matthew 3:17 ESV).
I don’t want to disappoint You, Father.
My thoughts, deeds, actions, and the intent of my heart are important to You; I don’t want You to be displeased.
Until my time on earth is up, I look forward to learning more about You.
The longer I live, the more I hope to be like Your Son.
My favorite times of the day are the rising and setting of the sun.
All praise, power, and glory be unto You, Lord (1 Chronicles 29:11–13 ESV).
Without You, my race cannot be run.
Because of Your love and sacrifice, Jesus, my race You’ve already won!
Power, Energy, and Light
This is for the Christians who have become disconnected.
No power, no energy, and no light, so how can you be protected? What distractions have caused you to not be intimate with God’s Son who was resurrected?
Protected from your flesh and the enemy.
It’s foolish to think you can be an overcomer in Christ without intimacy. Satan will always lure you to invest time and energy into things that appear to have more legitimacy.
One of the secrets to Jesus’ success is that He always made time for God.
He made time to be alone with God and pray.
He often went to a mountain and prayed before the break of day (Luke 6:12 NIV). How many of you leave your home each day before you seek God and pray?
Do you really expect God’s highest and best when you don’t give God the first fruits of your day?
How many of you have accepted Christ?
How many of you will stay?
Selah!
Take a look at your life.
Can you see the meaningless distractions?
For many, a cell phone has become a fatal attraction.
How can you have a renewed mind when your time with God is minimized, and with Him, you have very little interaction?
Spending more time on the phone instead of spending quality time with God.
Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, talking, texting, and Instagram.
Don’t let the cares of this life distract you.
Seek daily first the great I Am.
This will help keep your mind and body at ease.
Do you know that it’s stress that causes disease?
How long can you go and how far can you get without praying and staying on your knees?
Who are the most successful people in life?
Are they the ones we celebrate because of what they achieved?
Do you spend as much time with God as you do on TikTok?
Jesus changed Peter’s name to Petros, which means rock.
Are you a rock for Christ, or are you sand?
When you open your mouth, does God know where you stand?
Do you pray to God for wisdom before you carry out your plans?
He who is greatest in the kingdom of God is the one who is a servant (Matthew 23:11 NLT).
God always looks at the intent of the heart (1 Samuel 16:7 NIV).
Salvation is a gift from God (Romans 6:23 NIV).
No one can earn it, and no one deserves it.
Read Ephesians 2:1–10 KJV.
Let us never forget who we are without Christ.
We were born into sin, and everyone has sinned.
Put the phone down, and leave it alone.
Go to your secret place where you and God can be alone.
That’s how you overcome Satan, trials, and tribulations.
That’s where you become strong.
Is it possible to have the peace of God when everything in life is going wrong?
Yes! Jesus is the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6 NIV).
He’s Savior and Lord and has the power to make storms cease (Mark 4:35–39 NIV).
Jesus said the widow woman gave more in the offering than the rich.
Her two mites had more value and were not counted as the least (Mark 12:42–44 NIV).
God desires that you stay connected with Him.
Jesus said without Him you can do nothing (John 15:5 NIV).
How many people have lived their lives but did not live for something?
Something greater than their needs and desires.
Giving themselves their talents and gifts to expand God’s kingdom while being transpired.
Whenever Jesus teaches truth, the sheep become inspired.
You need the peace of God, the grace of God, and the strategy of God to be an overcomer.
Spending quality time with God can never be overstated for seasoned saints and newcomers.
Each morning your mind is bombarded with a list of things to do.
But the most important of these may not be on your list of daily things to do.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness
(Matthew 6:33 KJV).
This is one way in which you are conformed to the image of Christ.
Peace be still
(Mark 4:39 ESV).
You can hear God in quietness.
Obeying God and following Christ are examples of auspiciousness. Are you ready to be reconnected to Christ so your power, energy, and light can be maximally charged?
This is for everyone who refuses to let the cares of this life control them and be in charge.
This is what I’ve learned and have come to this conclusion.
Jesus said to focus on the things that you cannot see because what you see is not as important.
Satan is the father of lies and wants to lead you to seclusion (John 8:44 NIV). Everything and everyone that you extol above Christ will lead to your exclusion.
The things that you cannot see have more value than things that are seen.
Jesus came to establish God’s kingdom on earth and change the scene.
Whenever you hear the Word of God, it’s time to come clean.
The world is morbidly obese from sin, but the Shepherd keeps the sheep lean.
Boaz married Ruth and saw her as she gleaned (Ruth 2:15–23 NKJV).
Does anyone not understand what God is saying?
Do you understand what He means?
The Holy Spirit always reveals the truth and exposes Lucifer’s schemes.
Father, help us to be focused like Mary and not be distracted like Martha (Luke 10:40 NLT).
Uncertainties, unknowns, and responsibilities are all a part of daily living. Remind us, Holy Spirit, to start and close our days by honoring God with praise and thanksgiving.
I pray in Jesus’ name that you have been encouraged and reenergized. Don’t let the distractions of life take preeminence over spending time with God; they are all lies!
Do not let the cares of this life cause you to be distracted so that you become desensitized (Mark 4:19 ESV).
Father, forgive us of our sins, and may our self-destructive thoughts and actions be forgiven but not memorialized.
First John 1:9 NIV: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just, and will forgive us of our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
The Origin of Sin and Pride
It’s time for me to grab paper and pen.
The Holy Spirit is moving, so let me begin.
It’s impossible to please God when you continue to sin.
Notice that the I
always precedes the n.
As long as you’re full of pride, you can’t come in.
Sit up and pay attention so that you can come in.
The Lord’s about to teach so we won’t sin.
Satan is the tempter; just look at His grin (Matthew 4:3 ESV).
He knows that if you don’t follow Christ, it’s impossible for you to win.
He wants you to join him in the lake of fire where all sin ends!
But that’s a decision that only you can make.
God is the Creator of life; He always gives and never takes (Revelation 4:11 ESV).
Pride, greed, adultery, fornication, covetousness, murder, theft, deceit, envy, slander, and foolishness are all real and fake.
These are the things that can get into your heart.
These are the sins that will keep you and God apart.
Now look in the
