Introduction
What is technical analysis? Why is it important to know its basic principles? What notions can be used by those who want to educate themselves before investing? This book brings together the know-how and knowledge required to resolve the questions just raised.
Technical analysis is an important tool for understanding markets. It has its limitations and advantages and can offer important support to investors, but only if you understand how to use it. Many people initially think that this subject is too complex, difficult or enigmatic for the uninitiated.
In fact, anyone can approach this subject and benefit from knowing its rules and methodologies. Of course, there are certain things that beginners need to understand in order to use it. This is because technical analysis is not limited to using statistics and charts in order to identify investment signals.
Beginners will first need to understand what characterises this particular approach and how it differs from other methodologies, such as fundamental analysis. In addition, it will be crucial to understand how to use this knowledge and how to handle it psychologically.
The idea behind this guide is to offer a simple, step-by-step and practical method to approach the markets according to the theory of technical analysis and to understand its basic workings. In addition, on the following pages you will find out how to maximise your knowledge of technical analysis. The aim is not to provide a list of notions, but rather to explain how the basic principles of technical analysis can be applied at an operational level.
For this reason, in the course of reading, the reader will be urged to delve into key concepts, to consider (using practical examples from market history) how this knowledge can be applied, and to carry out in-depth research on the web.
The intention is therefore to provide useful concepts to obtain the knowledge base necessary to understand what technical analysis is, and then apply its principles in one's own operations.
It is indeed very important to understand the operational limits of this subject. In most technical analysis guides you will find many explanations of statistical and graphical operational techniques for interpreting the markets, but often this body of knowledge risks confusing rather than providing concrete help. While it is true that technical analysis offers many analytical insights for investing, it is rarer to find those who warn the reader against the abuses dictated by an incorrect use of these theories.
Thus, this handbook was created to explain in a simple and accessible way how to evaluate an investment on the basis of technical analysis and how to use this information alongside other analysis tools to understand the workings of the financial markets.
In doing so, the hope is to offer non-professional investors keys to interpreting the markets, which can on the one hand facilitate the selection of assets with increasing value, and on the other hand provide useful cognitive resources to stimulate their reasoning skills.
The ultimate goal is for this text to be simple and accessible to understand, but not simplistic. Above all, I would like the information contained here to highlight the fallacy of those who propose superficial anticipatory techniques and asset selection
