To my readers
CHAPTER ONE
William Tabarez paced his office with curled fists, wanting to break his brother’s jaw with one. William didn’t have time for this harassment. He had a business to run and a standing within the community to maintain. There were secrets nobody knew about him. Nobody except his brother George and his former lover Jeffrey.
I gave you money last week,
William said in a frustrated voice.
You gotta pay up to keep me quiet, bro.
George was nothing but a bum who leeched off his brother for everything he had. The affair William had with Jeffrey was a heaven-sent gift for George when he caught them in the act at the condo William bought after separating from his wife.
They hadn’t been happy for years, but how could they have been when William only had eyes for men? He’d only gotten married to have a woman by his side to pose for pictures and make him look like a normal man people would want to treat their illnesses.
William had found something special with Jeffrey, a younger man who was in his second year at the community college in town when they met. Their affair lasted throughout that school year. It’d been the best year of William’s life until George caught them together and dangled the fact over his head.
Jeffrey had since moved away to finish his studies at a university in the city and never called because of his fears that George would catch them again. They’d gotten away once without photographic evidence, and Jeffrey wasn’t willing to play with fire a second time. Not when it could out him as having an affair with an older man.
William understood where Jeffrey was coming from, but it still broke his heart. Jeffrey had moved away and broken contact over a year ago, so the pain of their loss had dampened, but he couldn’t move on with his life because of George’s constant blackmail.
We agreed to once a month when this started, and now you’re coming here every week. I can’t keep financing your life, George. I have a business to run.
George looked around his brother’s office, nodding. He knew his brother had overhead costs, but he was a doctor. Doctors swam in money. Everyone knew that, including George. If his brother wanted to stop acting as his money well, then everyone in town would learn about his affair with Jeffrey. He didn’t have photos, but a rumor could tumble like an avalanche in their town.
William’s estranged wife, who hardly ever answered his calls and refused to sign the divorce papers until William agreed to a higher settlement, ran with all the socialites of the town. She was friends with lady business owners, the first lady of the town, and anyone else who was worthy in her eyes.
You’re going to give me money, or everyone will know that you’re really just a cock-sucking queer.
William pushed George’s shoulder, but they’d had this fight before. He pushed him back. William yelled at him to stop before they caused a scene. William sighed and reached for his wallet when his office manager, Ellen, walked into the room.
"Dr. Tabarez, there’s an emergency. A man is bleeding
