Stitch Stars - Emily Middleton
WELCOME, STITCHY SUPERFANS!
I’m so glad you’re here. There is nothing I love more than sharing what brings me joy, and stitching definitely delivers joy! So, I’m thrilled to share with you both the knowledge and the passion I’ve acquired on my embroidery journey.
My teenage fangirl beginnings and childhood passion for crafting converged in 2020, when I found myself indoors with lots of free time (as I am sure so many of you did). Stitching lyrics and motifs inspired by my favourite artist – Harry Styles – evolved into recreating his colourful outfits. As my designs gained popularity online, I knew I had something special. Soon, I had created over 100 Harry-inspired pieces!
Hand embroidery is a very time-consuming art form, so it’s hard to produce pieces quickly enough for everyone who wishes to own one (not to mention the price tag associated with such intricate and laborious work). I wanted to make my art accessible to every fan, and this book is the perfect medium to do so. I couldn’t be more excited about it!
Whether you’re a complete beginner or seasoned stitcher, these patterns are for you. The techniques make the process simple to follow and, with a little patience, you’ll create a work of art to be proud of!
My hope for this book is that it allows you to find joy in embroidery. But more importantly, I want it to inspire you to celebrate the things you love and express them through art.
HOW TO USE THIS BOOK
Select your design: There are 24 to choose from – maybe you saw Harry live and want to recreate the memory, stitch a gift for a friend, or simply love a particular outfit!
Sort your thread: Each design’s Thread Key shows you the colours required – find out more in Embroidery Supplies.
Grab your gear: You don’t need much in the way of tools and materials. The essentials are listed in Embroidery Supplies.
Prep your pattern: Each design has an iron-on transfer provided in this book. You can also trace it from a printout or tablet screen. See Using the Patterns, then Starting to Stitch.
Rehearse your stitches: Each design’s Stitch Key lists the stitches used – I show you how to create each one in the Stitch Guide.
Walk with me! The first design – Manchester – walks you through the whole process, step by step, from start to finish. Even if you don’t stitch this design, reading through the instructions will give you an indispensable overview of the stitching process. What are you waiting for?!
