Kali, also known as Kali Ma (Mother of Darkness) is often viewed by those who know nothing about her as an evil goddess. She is one of the most misunderstood figures and the depictions of her don't seem to help her cause. When you pull up her images on a search engine you will find her painted as a black (most commonly blue) woman wearing the severed heads of those she has slayed as a neckless, a skirt made out of limbs, and sticking a bloody tongue out while stomping on a living being. However, Kali is the goddess of creation, preservation, destruction and time. Her dual nature leads her worshipers to face the beauty of life and the reality of death with the understanding that one cannot exist without the other.
