Description

This week, we welcome back one of our all-time favorite guests: Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy. In 2021, Patrick joined us to tell us all about his love for ska. He even shared with us a recording he made of Reel Big Fish’s “Sellout.” This time, he dives into the topic of ska even deeper, and even shares a recording he made of one of his original trad ska songs. Patrick tells us all about being starstruck when he met Blue Meanies guitarist Sean Dolan, and how he practiced playing “Smash The Magnavox” on the bass guitar when he was younger. He explains why Fishbone and Prince are his favorite artists and how he learned that Fishbone’s song “Party At Ground Zero” was a much deeper song than mainstream culture presented it. He also answers questions from Dave and Colin of Mustard Plug, such as “Will you take us on tour?” Patrick lists his favorite local, obscure Chicago ska bands from the 90s, he tells us how Chuck Wren’s radio show “Everything Off-Beat” was everything, and we discuss which Fall Out Boy songs are the most ska. Plus, what’s the deal with that large inflatable dog on Fall Out Boy’s tour last year? Listen to Patrick Stump conversation, and make sure to like, review, and follow the series wherever you get your podcast. Ska no longer needs to be the butt of every joke. IDOS is flipping the narrative on this style of music that they love dearly. Hosts Aaron Carnes (author of "In Defense of Ska") and Adam Davis (Link 80, Omingone) chat with people in and outside of the ska scene to tell its stories, show its pervasiveness in culture, and defend it to their last dying breath.
