Freeport
Stroll through this picturesque village in Maine and explore dozens of outlet stores, numerous restaurants and the famous L.L. Bean Flagship Store.

From shopping adventures to sandy encounters to seaside explorations, Freeport has quite varied attractions. Enjoy the unique town’s bustling atmosphere throughout the year.

Stop at the Freeport Historical Society to learn more about the area’s past. Go on a walking tour to view some of Freeport’s original homes, schools and churches. See history come alive through a series of exhibits and live demonstrations of local pastimes, such as quilting.

No trip to Freeport is complete without a visit to the L.L. Bean Flagship Store. The sprawling store is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Don’t miss the indoor pond and aquarium, where trout and salmon swim around. Sign up for a fly-fishing class at L.L. Bean’s Fogg Farm or join an outdoor discovery school in kayaking, snowshoeing, archery, sport shooting or other athletic activities.

Browse a variety of other outlet stores and local boutiques. Sample the state’s famous lobsters and other seafood at one of the town’s many restaurants. Choose from dozens of dining areas, ranging from local Maine food to well-known national chains.

Explore the coastal beauty of Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park. Follow trails through marshes, fields and along the waterfront. Watch for the stately ospreys that nest on neighboring Googins Island. Stroll along the coast on the popular Casco Bay Walk. As you explore, check out the informative panels that describe the area and the animals that live here.

Find something completely unexpected in the Desert of Maine. Resulting from an ancient glacial silt deposit, sand dunes cover over 40 acres (16 hectares) of former farmland. Take a narrated tram tour and walk through the quirky Farm Museum in the 1797 Tuttle Barn.

The charming village of Freeport is about a 20-minute drive north of Portland on the shores of Casco Bay. Whether you come to explore its famous outlet stores or its picture-perfect outdoor spaces, Freeport offers appealing attractions.

We eally enjoyed the Christmas lights as well as all the lights at LLBean. Main reason for going to Freeport were the lights and shopping.
