The 46-year-old actor was driving a Toyota SUV, while Bill Haas, 35, was a passenger in a Ferrari when the incident happened in Los Angeles’ Pacific Palisades neighbourhood on Tuesday night.
The incident left the Ferrari driver dead and the Royal Tenenbaums actor and golfer injured, but according to a witness at the scene, that didn’t stop Luke from saving a 50-year-old woman who was trapped in her BMW.
Eyewitness Sean Heirigs, 46, an owner of a local tattoo parlour, revealed that the Hollywood star helped pull the BMW driver from her vehicle which smelled of smoke.
He commented: “I would say he [Luke] was heroic in leading the charge on how to get her out.

"He didn't have to do that, he was also one of the injured parties so for him to be there helping me was amazing."
Sean said he was driving his car with his 14-year-old daughter as a passenger, who later called the emergency services when they witnessed the incident from behind the red Ferrari.
“Luke said he smelled smoke, 'Let's get her out’,” the father added.
"He went in through the trunk and pulled her out. And then we both carried her over to the curb so we could lay her down and make sure she stays safe."

According to People, Jay Haas told the Golf Channel that his son was in pain and had swelling in one of his legs but had no broken bones.
“Bill was very fortunate,” he said.
Officer Mike Lopez of the LAPD told the Palisades Post that the cause of the crash was due to high speed driving.
He said: "I believe the cause [of the Ferrari driver’s death] was a high rate of speed and the individual lost control, colliding into several vehicles."
Los Angeles Police Department Detective Jeff Fischer also added that Luke’s car had only incurred minor damage, telling the radio station: “It basically got clipped by the Ferrari."
