Sir Kenneth Branagh has starred as Agatha Christie’s Belgian detective in the latest screen adaptations of Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile alongside all-star ensemble casts. And now his take on Hercule Poirot returns in a third outing called A Haunting in Venice, based on the 1969 mystery Hallowe’en Party. Unlike the brightly coloured previous two outings, this one is very much a horror.
Set after World War II, Poirot is now retired but ends up having to solve the murder of a guest at a séance he attends. Joining the ensemble cast this ttime around are Michelle Yeoh, Camille Cottin, Jamie Dornan, Tina Fey, Jude Hill, Ali Khan, Emma Laird, Kelly Reilly and Riccardo Scamarcio. Once again Branagh is also directing the movie, which is produced by Sir Ridley Scott. Screenwriter of the first two films Michael Green is also back on scribe duties. His screen credits include Logan, Alien: Covenant and Blade Runner 2049.
A Haunting in Venice hits cinemas on September 15, 2023.
