A man died in a crash on the M25 this morning between Brentwood and Epping in Essex.

The road was closed anti-clockwise between J28 (for the A12, near Brentwood) and J27 (for the M11, near Epping), National Highways said. The incident occurred before junction 27, for the M11.
As a result of the incident and closure, traffic built up throughout today, with traffic reporting system INRIX speaking of a four-mile queue. Drivers were urged to avoid the area where possible, and National Highways put a diversion in place.
Despite the work of paramedics, a 68-year-old man died at the scene and two others were taken to hospital.

Crash confirmed to have been fatal
It was reported three people sustained injuries in a three-vehicle collision.
The M25 was closed in both directions while emergency services worked at the scene and despite the best efforts of paramedics, a 68-year-old man died at the scene.
Two people were taken to hospital for further treatment.
The road has now reopened in both directions as emergency services begin leaving the scene.
Police want to hear from anyone who has dashcam footage that will help their investigation.
Roads open
All lanes have now reopened on the M25 anti-clockwise between J28 (Brentwood) and J27 (M11 J6 / Epping) following the earlier collision.
There is still approx. 2.5 miles of congestion on approach. Please allow extra time for the remaining residual delays to clear.

There are long delays on approach to the closure on the anti-clockwise carriageway with 7 miles of congestion and 4 miles of congestion on approach to the clockwise carriageway.
There are also delays on the M11 southbound, currently 60 minutes above normal travel times with 4 miles of congestion.

National Highways urges drivers to plan ahead
A spokesperson from National Highways said: "If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time.
"Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."
Road remains closed as of 1pm
The road remains closed, with miles of traffic extending back to Brook Street Roundabout, Brentwood. Drivers should avoud the area where possible.
Diversion route revealed
National Highways has asked road to follow the Hollow Square diversion symbol on road signs as part of the diversion route. From M25 Junction 28 exit slip roundabout, motorists should take the 1st exit onto A12 towards London.
At A12 /A127/ A118 “Gallows Corner” Junction, road users should follow the A12 towards London. Then, follow the A12 through “Gants Hill” to Redbridge Interchange.
At A12/A406 Redbridge Interchange take 3rd exit A406(N) towards the M11. At M11 Junction 4, bear left onto slip road towards Cambridge and take exit at M11 Junction 6 onto slip and then bear left to re-join the M25.
Essex Police provide update on 'serious' collision
A spokesperson from Essex Police has said: "We are currently at the scene of a serious collision on the anti-clockwise carriageway of the #M25 between junctions 27 and 28.
"There is significant disruption in the area and we are expecting this to continue for a number of hours with possible road closures on both carriageways.
"Please avoid the area if you can and plan accordingly. We appreciate your patience and we will update you as soon as we can."
London Ambulance Service confirm presence
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 11.07am this morning (Monday December 16) to reports of a road traffic collision on the M25, CM16.
“We sent resources to the scene, including a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer. The incident is ongoing and we are currently at the scene with our emergency services partners.”
